D. Y. Patil University was established in the year 2005, in the name of the great educationist and philanthropist DR. D. Y. PATIL Padma Shree Awardee. D.Y. Patil Education Society is the sponsoring society of the University. D. Y. Patil Education Society (Institution Deemed to be University) Kolhapur is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 bearing no. Maharashtra/32907/Kolhapur on 21st November 2013.

• To provide quality education and skill development in health sciences and other related areas for development of professional human resources.

• To develop symbiotic relations with industry, academic and research institutions and community to meet the expectations of various stakeholders in education.

We are a University with one of the most reputed Medical Colleges in the country while also being a Research centre par excellence. Notably, the Nursing college was set up within the first two years of the establishment of the University.

We at the University are known for our dedication to patients and students. It will interest you to note that, several student centric schemes have been commenced, out of which the University Moral Guidance Scheme (UMGS) specifically encourages discussions and interaction between students and their teachers. Every Saturday, the students can take up matters related to academics or other grievances to their allotted teachers. For PG students, the University is organizing the ‘Campaign on University Research & Training (COURT)’ on 18th February annually, in which they are expected to present their research work. Annual Meeting of Advance Research (AMAR) is arranged for Ph.D. Students. The University will acknowledge the best efforts with prizes. The participation in the Central Government agency funded projects will also be encouraged, with the backing from our able faculty.

Of late we started Student Guidance Clinic in our hospital where any student can come and take guidance on their difficulties, problems, stress related issues and finally relationship issues. We are able to provide counseling etc.

A noteworthy mention is the organization of National and International Conferences by our University, which has helped its global recognition.

Our vision projects this University as a unique centre of excellence in higher education and endeavors to meet to social, medical and technical requirements of the modern era.

The University strives to make delivery of the various curriculum ‘learner centric’ to ensure holistic student development. Using latest in Information & Communication Technology, encouraging student participation in academic, research and extracurricular activities, providing the latest in learning resources and a keen emphasis on solidarity through education and community efforts are some areas of high priority.
