Echline Primary is in South Queensferry and enjoys a striking setting with a dramatic backdrop of the bridges. The school is non- denominational and serves an area north west of the City of Edinburgh. It has a pupil roll of 250 including a 30 / 30 place children’s nursery.Echline is an Eco School with four green flag awards and we are working towards our fifth.

We are a Health promoting school and are working towards stage two. Also, we have Investors in people status. We have started working towards becoming a Rights Respecting School too.We enjoy International links with school in Kenya, and recently celebrated our connection with a week long international focus.

Our Pupils, Staff and Parents have worked together to review our school aims. We have based these on the Four Capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence to ensure that we are developing the skills and attributes which young people will need throughout their lives. We have simplified each aim to share with the learners at Assemblies so that every child knows and understands what it means for them.

We aim to provide a high quality, inclusive education in a caring, nurturing and supportive environment where children develop confidence, self- esteem, knowledge and skills for life- long learning.

We recognise that home and school are the two main influences on a child’s development and believe that by forging a close partnership between the two, we will enable your child to reach their full potential. Involving parents in the life of the school is extremely important so we will provide regular opportunities for you to share your child’s learning.

At Echline Primary we aim to provide a caring supportive environment where individuals feel safe, valued and treated with respect. Our curriculum is inclusive and planned to meet the needs of our learners. Learners are encouraged to do their best and achievements are celebrated and shared with the school community during Assemblies.

We are committed to supporting the development of the whole pupil and as a result, wish to encourage their development in spiritual, moral, social and cultural terms.

We wish to encourage a partnership with you to ensure the best possible standards of pupil behaviour. At Echline Primary School our Behaviour Policy is based on Values of: Caring, Consideration, Cooperation, Positive Attitude and Respect. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their behaviour. Positive behaviour strategies are used by all staff throughout the school to reinforce this.

A child who misbehaves is given a choice of changing his/her behaviour or accepting the consequences. If initial warnings do not change these behaviours then parents will be informed and asked to come into the school for a meeting to discuss the way forward. Bullying and discrimination of any kind are not tolerated. Any incidents such as name calling, a child being excluded by others from a play time group, pushing or indeed any behaviour that is hurtful, may be recorded.

We offer as wide a range of sporting and cultural activities as possible. There is a range of extra-curricular activities available for pupils during lunchtime and after school. Some of these are provided by the Active Schools Coordinator, Heather Darling. Parents will be informed about these by the school. In addition to in-school activities, classes also make regular educational visits and field studies.
