Engineers Ireland - STEPS

With over 25,000 members from every discipline of engineering, Engineers Ireland is the voice of the engineering profession in Ireland. We have been representing the engineering profession since 1835, making us one of the oldest and largest professional bodies in Ireland. Members come from every discipline of engineering, and range from engineering students to fellows of the profession.

We have created this Privacy Statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to the privacy of your information and to explain to you our use of your information. The www.engineersireland.ie website (the “Website”) is operated by the Institution of Engineers of Ireland trading as Engineers Ireland (“we”, “us”, “our”, “Engineers Ireland”). In order to fully understand your rights, we encourage you to read this Privacy Statement and to consult our Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”).

This Privacy Statement (together with the Terms and any other documents referred to) sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us. For the purpose of the Data Protection Acts 1988-2003, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 and any national implementing legislation (the “applicable Data protection law”), Engineers Ireland is the Data Controller. Our Code of Ethics outlines the standards and conduct that all Engineers Ireland members must adopt in their professional lives.

The Code is divided into four parts:

• Relations with colleagues, clients, employers and society in general
• Environmental and social obligations
• Maintenance and development of professional conduct and standards
• Enforcement procedures and disciplinary action

Our profession requires a high standard of scientific education, together with specialised training, formation and experience. We should adhere to an appropriate Code of Ethics as an essential characteristic of our profession.
