In 1995, EtonHouse set up its first Pre-School at Broadrick Road in Singapore. The school was well received by parents. It gave so much pride and satisfaction to the owners, when parents came forward and told the school management that their children asked to go to school on weekends. It is also a matter of pride that Mrs. Ng’s daughter E-Ching who was the inspiration behind EtonHouse is pursuing her Phd at the prestigious Yale University.
For close to two decades, parents have valued the high quality of research-based inquiry programme provided by EtonHouse. Building on continual support from parents together with its strong commitment to the pursuit of excellence and leadership in education services, EtonHouse has been expanding both locally and internationally. It now runs more than 100 schools in 12 countries across Singapore, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Kazakhstan and Middle East. With a sustained demand for high quality education, the group has plans to expand.
EtonHouse has developed its philosophy based on research and internationally accredited best practice in education that supports a child focused learning and teaching environment.
At EtonHouse, we aim to develop each child into a well-balanced individual through engaging environments that support children’s curiosity and wonder; that engage children and that offer them a wide range of materials to work in purposefully designed learning areas.
Every child should acquire social skills and the confidence to communicate freely and easily with both adults and peers. EtonHouse has been established to provide a happy, relaxed and safe environment that contributes to the development of the whole person.
We respect all children as strong and competent learners, curious and interested in their world. Our curriculum is generated through ongoing observation of individual children’s skills, ideas and interest. In this way, we demonstrate the pedagogy of listening (Rinaldi 2006 p 65), valuing the individual child and their unique characteristics and learning styles to create a responsive curriculum based on inquiry and play.
Acknowledging children as sophisticated thinkers and communicators. Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the schools of Reggio Emilia, proposed that children have 100 languages with which to communicate their ideas and thinking, e.g. children draw, paint, compose, write, sculpt, design, model, sing and dance.
Play and conversation are the central modes of learning for young children. Play serves as an integrative device which provides a context for social interaction, the development of new skills and the sharing of knowledge. Learning occurs when the adult takes an active role within the play, focusing the child’s awareness, extending and complicating their thinking and guiding and supporting their engagement.
Ensuring our curriculum has intellectual and pedagogical integrity. We engage in research based teaching, drawing principally on social constructivist theory and the work of Vygotsky and Gardner.
Creating alliances with parents as the child’s first educators. We believe that to best support children, we must work closely with the parents to establish shared goals and expectations about the child’s learning.
As educators, we demonstrate our accountability to children, parents and the wider community through our commitment to pedagogical documentation. Through our documentation we make our learning and teaching visible to others and create a context for self reflection.
The school prides itself on providing a well-rounded curriculum that allows children to be exposed in English, Chinese Mandarin and Japanese languages.Under the International Preschool division we offer English and Chinese (as a 2nd language) programs and Japanese language under the Japanese Early Learning Center.Your children could also enrich their language abilities through our various after school language classes in various forms.
