Innovation and Technology Transfer in our complex world can only be succesfully achieved in close relation with industry. The Vice Presidency for Innovation (VPI) is totally dedicated to further enhance the innovation process towards the market place. The team of Large Enterprises deals with large national and international companies which are interested in strategic collaborations with EPFL including installation of corporate R&D activities on the campus at EPFL Innovation Park.
Tailored partnerships are one very efficient approach to innovation. It encompasses research collaboration, technology transfer, visits and exchanges of key personnel. Universities and companies will need to be even more creative in the future to improve innovation. EPFL is convinced that the breakthroughs of the future will be done by linking transdisciplinary domains and facilitating the communication between people with different expertise and backgrounds.
EPFL is willing to contribute in bridging the innovation gap by inviting companies on and around its campus to further improve the innovation process. The VPI Network as well as the Strategic Initiatives will play an important role in this effort.
We gladly welcome opportunities for our students to work on real case studies. Finding real solutions to real problems is indeed the best training they could have in order to face the challenges that lie ahead in their professional path. Be it for a first analysis during a 4-month Semester project or a more in-depth study for their Master project, students are enthusiastic to try out new ideas with the assistance of our Professors.
It has been experienced many times that such work has the potential to lead to important developments in further stages of research. Furthermore, students may have the willingness and time to explore new avenues of research or promising trains of thought that your staff may not always have the time or the resources to explore.
Students also have the possibility to complete their education with a 6-month internship in the industry, in order to gain first-hand knowledge and experience in a real working environment. Meanwhile, their presence in your company can be refreshing and positive synergies may emerge from their contact with the company’s permanent staff. Hybrid collaborations of this kind are great vectors towards innovative ways of thinking.
If you’re interested in proposing a subject of study or an internship in the field of transportation to our students, please send an email to [email protected] to discuss the various ways our students could bring added value to the research projects that you wish to push forward.
Initiated in 2009, the Transportation Center of the EPFL (TRACE) is an interdisciplinary center attached to the VPI. Its primary mission is to become the interface between EPFL and the outside world for all topics related to transport and mobility of people and goods.
Bringing together close to 40 member laboratories and thus relying on a combined workforce of more than 560 topnotch researchers, the Transportation Center is able to provide a wide range of competences and expertise to address the increasingly complex challenges associated with the mobility of people and goods.
The transport sector is of a deeply transversal nature, and therefore gathers actors from a broad range of disciplines. In addition to developing a multidisciplinary research of high caliber in order to bring added-value solutions to societal problems, TRACE aims to strengthen the visibility of transport research at EPFL and bring out the added-value of existing and new synergies from the joining of very diverse core competences distributed across a wide range of laboratories throughout the different schools.
The EPFL Transportation Center addresses all issues related to transport and mobility. Its main role is to foster technology transfer in this field through the initiation of partnerships with industrial and public authorities. About fourty laboratories from five faculties at EPFL are affiliated and lead interdisciplinary research projects.
Over 110 projects have already been initiated in areas which include, for example, robotics, information and communications technology, land use, energy efficiency, urban sociology or areas such as security and comfort in cars and trains. Discover TRACE.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
Great place to study and meet cool people. Nice architecture and views. No surprise when told it's one of the top universities in the world..

I have both a bachelor and a masters from this uni, and although I spent most of my uni days criticising it, it stays one of the best technical universities in the world. Sure, management focuses too much on building bling-bling show-off tourist attractions (Rolex-learning center, SwissTech) and not enough on the quality of their education, but in general the lecturers are great people and the overall quality of the education is the envy of most other institutions in the world, and rightfully so.

Outstanding facilities and very interesting master studies! Great employer reputation too! England in my experience, and I assume everywhere in the world! The great thing with this scohol is that you can enjoy your studies and obtain a Diploma construed as excellent everywhere in the world :) However, if you consider studying there, you should be prepared to work reeeeeallly hard, especially during bachelor studies! No pain no gain ;)

An EXCELLENT place to study. Superior teaching & learning facilities.
However Lausanne is not a cosy city to live: the French culture is dominant, as international it is very difficult to really enjoy it if you are not French speaking. Those French speaking guys assume that everyone ON THIS PLANET should speak French. Also the student residence service was way under expectation...lots of homeless students
