Fleur de Lis Primary School is a local authority maintained primary school within Caerphilly County Borough Council. The school is part of the Blackwood Cluster of schools and the local area is known as the Islwyn region. The school provides a welcoming and caring ethos in a safe and secure learning environment. Staff treat all pupils equally and fairly.
A strength of the school is the positive attitude and enthusiasm most pupils have for learning. Most pupils understand the importance of attending school regularly. They relate positively to visual displays recording attendance of each class and school competitions to encourage high levels of attendance.
Colaboration and teamwork are very prominent at all levels of the school and by all stakeholders, but particularly the children who are encouraged to have a voice which is heard and valued. This ethos is reflected in the schools' vision underpinned by its motto 'Together We Achieve More.'
Pupils, staff, parents and Governors have all worked together to gain many external awards. Mostly recently we gained the Investors in Families Accreditation. These include awards for the school garden and grounds from Gavo's Gwent Best Kept Village Awards as well as from Blackwood Rotary Club. As part of our Healthy Schools Initiative we have established a "Walking Bus" Scheme.
We are currently working hard to gain the Eco Schools Platinum Green Flag Award. During the Summer Term 2018 we successfully gained the Bronze Campus Cymraeg accreditation for the development of the Welsh Language across the school.
