On 3 June 1958 the school was officially opened by Dr C.S. van der Westhuizen, Inspector of schools. At the beginning the progress in general had been gradual. Floors became an intermediate school (std 8, grade 10) and later a high school (std 10, grade 12). We currently have 38 educators with 1054 learners. Soon Floors had more learners than William Pescod. Because of the diversity of learners it accommodated.

Not all new things or changes are accepted with ease. So too was the technical section of the school also accepted with reluctance when the zinc building was constructed in 1965. In 1993/1994 this was replaced by a brick structure. The community at first felt that the school was transforming their children into woodcutters and water-carriers.

186 learners were enrolled in standards 6 and 7 (grade 8 and 9). The 11 educators all moved from William Pescod High and therefore Floors is rightfully the sister school of William Pescod. Under the leadership of the first principal, Mr. A.F. Delport, and his team of dedicated and willing colleagues to assist him in his task, they have laid the foundation for the successes and achievements of the school.

To enable all learners to become the best that they can be, by empowering them with the necessary life-skills to become productive members in their community, province and the nation, so that the school can be seen to inspire pride in the community.

To establish an institution that provides the community access to quality education, quality education to all learners with a team of highly motivated educators to produce well-educated, dynamic citizens who will contribute to the community, province and nation.

The Technical Section was established to fill a vacuum which existed in the De Beers Engineering Works, De Beers Draughtsman section and Kimberley Engineering Works. This technical section became the breeding ground for Escom, Telkom, ISCOR and other mining companies. All these companies came to the school and offered our students jobs, study or apprentice opportunities- products that one feels proud of. With the help of the private sector, the technical section earned it's rightful place in the curriculum, and society.

My child has been attending Floors High School in Northern Cape for the past year and I couldn't be happier with the quality of education they are receiving. The staff at the school are incredibly helpful and dedicated to their students' success. I've seen such great progress in my child's learning and they have really thrived in the classroom.
