Also known as Africa Day, African Union Day is celebrated annually on May 25th. It is the historical commemoration of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963.

Eid Al Fitr
Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important holidays in Algeria. It is an Islamic holiday and is celebrated to break the 1-month fasting of Muslims during Ramadan.

Republic Day
This observance remembers the day Prime Minister Osagyefo Dr. Kwame was sworn into office as the first President of Ghana and the republic was proclaimed on the 1st of July, 1960.

Founder’s Day
The Founder’s Day marks two important events in the history of Ghana – (1) the formation of the Aborigines’ Rights Protection Society by John Mensah Sarbah in 1897, and (2) the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) in 1947 by J.B. Danquah and George Alfred “Paa” Grant.

Eid Al Adha
The Muslim religious festival Eid al-Adha is also celebrated in Algeria. It is the larger “Eid” and Muslims celebrate it by attending prayers and visiting relatives.

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day
This holiday commemorates the birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President.

Farmer’s Day
Farmer’s Day remembers the importance of the agriculture industry in Ghana.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day celebrates the Nativity of Jesus which according to tradition took place on December 25th.

Boxing Day
Boxing Day is the day after Christmas. In most countries, this day is also a public holiday.
