At Glendowie College we recognise that our students live in a global, diverse and technologically advanced world.

Through their academic studies and extensive co-curricular involvment, our students gain confidence; learn to think and communicate effectively; and develop resilience - i.e. build a realistic view of the world, learn that life is meaningful, and develop the ability to improvise. These are the core skills or attributes for our young people to succeed today and tomorrow.

Our students enjoy a rigorous academic education. They are supported and challenged to achieve to their very best which is evident in our students' exceptional academic results in NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship, as well as success in other academic competitions.

To prepare our students for academic success the college is the only state secondary school that offers the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). This is a framework of learning that provides students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to become active, compassionate lifelong learners.

At Year 11 there is a school-based programme. The emphasis is to further develop learning and thinking skills rather than concentrating on credit accumulation. By having this emphasis students are better prepared to meet success at NCEA Level 2 and 3.

Our students also participate and excel in the arts, sports and leadership. We have the highest participation rate of co-curricular schools in Auckland, and many students excel nationally and internationally. In the Arts we provide a wide range of opportunities such as music groups (orchestras), dance groups, debating and various drama opportunities such as school productions. We provide extensive leadership development across the school, including the very popular Duke of Edinburgh programme.

All of this is backed up by a superb pastoral care system. Through our four houses, form teachers, Guidance Counsellors, and school nurse ... the wellbeing of our students is closely monitored and supported.
