Glenwood High School is a traditional boys’ high school based in Durban, South Africa. Founded in 1910, we are committed to the best practice for boys in all aspects of our school. The values we instil in boys guide them on their journey to manhood and finding their purpose.

From humble beginnings in 1910, when there were just 26 boys on the roll, Glenwood High School has grown to be one of the leading schools in KZN and South Africa.

The name was changed to the “Technical High School, Durban” in 1915. By the end of WWI in 1918, 25 Old Boys and one staff member had made the supreme sacrifice. To this day, they are still remembered (together with WWII casualties) on memorials around the School and at our annual Remembrance services.

It was not until January 1929, that the School was able to move to its present premises in McDonald Rd. In 1934 the name was changed to its present name, “Glenwood High School”. The “Government Schools Hostel” was opened in 1935 and after WWII the name was changed to “Gibson House” in memory of Roy Gibson, one of the original boarders who had died in WWII. His legacy epitomise the typical Gibson House boy.

Glenwood is about much more than the achievements of a few talented individuals; it has provided an education for thousands of boys over the last one hundred years and, hopefully, will continue to do so for many years in the future.

Beyond the classroom, Glenwood is a bustling hub of activity. The School has invested in world-class facilities that provide a plethora of opportunities for boys to get involved and accomplish their goals.

Glenwood High School prides itself on its advance in facilities regarding Engineering Graphics and Design. The studio contains a CAD lab which is equipped with 30 desktop computers that runs Autodesk software such as AutoCad and Inventor. Boys who opt for Engineering Graphics and Design get the opportunity to learn and practice how to draw using CAD, a skill much desired in the technical industry. The school also has a 3D printer, which enables interactive learning.

The vibrant Media Centre, is the heart of the school that encourages a love for reading and integrates technology serving its users in an efficient and multi-functional manner.

The Victor Daitz Science Centre was officially opened by Mr B. Moshal and Mr A. Benn in 2011. The facility boasts state-of-the-art technical equipment as well as individual ecosystems within the centre. This facility is also used for our extensive social awareness initiatives.
