Our Academy opened in September 2015 in order to provide high quality primary places for local families. We believe that every child is unique and that each deserves the opportunity to be happy, feel valued and experience success.

We are part of a Federation of schools with an established track record in Bromley and across London. The Harris Federation Primary Team provides a great deal of support to our staff, helping give pupils the highest quality education in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our ethos at the Academy is that all children can achieve: it is our job as educators is to do everything possible to enable this to happen. We are delighted to be in a brand new building, which is a bright, modern and welcoming place for children to attend.

Our academy is part of the Harris Federation. This is a not-for-profit charity with over twenty five years’ experience of primary, secondary and sixth form education in and around London.

The charity was created by Lord Harris of Peckham. He and his family take an active interest in every Harris Academy, supporting us financially and with their time. In addition to the Harris Federation, good causes supported by the Harris family include the NSPCC and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Every Harris Academy is different, serving its own community, but we share an ethos that ensures children and teenagers have access to an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There is also a Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance. This enables the Harris Federation not only to train and develop teachers and leaders in its own academies, but also to deliver outstanding training for other schools across London.

Whatever a child's background or starting point, the staff at HPABe are ambitious for all children and aim to ensure they finish Year 6 with the knowledge, academic skills and life skills in order to thrive. We recognise and value each child's individual personality and work to develop their self-confidence and self-esteem.

At HPABe we strongly believe that once a child can read they can access the wider world around them. Each day begins with a high quality phonics lesson and by the end of Year 1 the vast majority of children move away from the phonics programme and develop their higher level comprehension skills.

For the rest of the day children take part in a busy timetable of Mathematics, English and thematic work which aims to link all areas of the curriculum. Science, P.E and Mandarin are taught to a high level by subject specialists. Thematic lessons are challenging and link British Values in a meaningful way, they all have the 'wow' factor at the heart to inspire and motivate pupils.

Each child will be taught in the way that suits them best and we will step in quickly if a change is needed. All children who need further support receive extra support to ensure that they make rapid progress.

We encourage all pupils in EYFS and KS1 who receive a universal free school meal to stay for a school lunch. Pupils are served using china plates and eat with their teachers who encourage good table manners and conversation.

At HPABe we believe that 'every child matters and every moment counts' We have a strong and committed team who work together to bring this vision to life.We strongly encourage visits to our academy so that you can see our vision in action.

At Harris Primary Academy Beckenham we are committed to promoting the progress and attainment of all our pupils, whatever their backgrounds. We commit to the Harris Federation’s equality and diversity statement which can be seen here.

The Pupil Premium is part of our overall budget that we receive annually. We are required to account specifically about how we use this fund. It is allocated based on the number of children meeting a national criteria based on the Ever 6 Measure. That includes the total number of:

  • Pupils eligible for free school meals – within the last 6 years
  • Looked after children
  • We use our funding to precisely target specific teaching and learning programmes or related activities.

We are committed to ensuring that all our pupils progress well and access high quality teaching and provision - every day. We carefully track the progress of all children including children from disadvantaged backgrounds though provision maps and at pupil progress meetings every half term. Tracking also enables us to evaluate the impact of our teaching and intervention programmes so we can adjust provision and tailor support. That way, we can make sure we are having the desired impact on pupils’ learning and progress.

Programmes are used across our Early Years, KS1 & KS2 to help identified children who need support to accelerate progress in their mathematics, reading, writing, speaking and listening.
