Our students, whether they are in the classrooms or in the hallways, in school or representing Harvey in the community beyond our campus, leave their imprint on the world and on the future. The Harvey School provides a college-preparatory program that fosters lifelong learning and inspires students to develop the confidence and leadership qualities necessary to succeed in a diverse, competitive, and changing world. With our commitment to small class size, our community cultivates the strengths of each student through academic excellence, artistic exploration, athletic achievement, community service, and global understanding.

The Harvey School was founded by Dr. Herbert Carter and his wife Mabel Carter in 1916 as a residential school for boys, enrolling students through the secondary grades. Dr. Carter, a New York City pediatrician, built the school at his farm in Hawthorne, New York. His intention was to provide a country environment and an educational program for his son, Herbert Swift Carter, Jr., who had some physical limitation due to scarlet fever as a child.

We are a day and boarding school comprised of 360 students in grades 6 through 12 with 100 faculty and staff members. The five-day boarding program accommodates 40 students in grades 9 through 12. As a community we value not only the learning that takes place in our classrooms but also in the dormitories, on the fields and stages and anywhere faculty and staff connect with our students. Each of us embraces the importance of lifelong learning, and we support one another in developing individual talents.

Each of our students brings a blend of talents, abilities, and passion that contributes to our unique school community. Our faculty strives to bring out the best in each student so they discover their strengths, develop confidence in their own abilities, and reach their highest potential.

Small classes are a major feature of our school, allowing teachers to work closely with each student to develop skills and master the content in their courses. Our teachers are role models and guides, in and out of the classroom. We utilize traditional teaching methods combined with the use of cutting-edge technology to help our students find success.

We prepare students for continued academic success, perpetuate their love of learning, and inspire them to reach their potential in a stimulating learning environment. Our curriculum, delivered by a gifted faculty who are attentive and dedicated to every child's learning experience, balances innovation and tradition and is responsive to the changing world.
