We are a community primary and nursery school maintained by the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The school is named after Henry Maynard, a 17th Century merchant adventurer, whose maritime background is commemorated in the sailing ship of our school logo. Our original register is kept in Vestry House museum and records the admission of the first infants on June 29th 1885. Today’s school was opened on 1st September 2012, after the amalgamation of Henry Maynard Junior School and Henry Maynard Infant School and Nursery. We admit children between 3 and 11 years old and follow Waltham Forest’s admission procedure.
We are an accredited Teacher Training School and offer training and assessment to trainee teachers through the School Direct route. We are also a partner in the Waltham Forest Teaching School Alliance. Our school is split over two sites which both have extensive grounds. Each classroom is well resourced with a range of IT equipment. Our Foundation Stage has well-equipped outdoor learning spaces. Across the school in Key Stage 1 and 2 children continue to use our outdoor spaces to support the curriculum. Our large halls are used for P.E., assemblies, school clubs and at Maynard Road a popular weekly Toy Library.
We recognise the importance of parents and carers as partners in their children’s education. We do all we can to encourage their active involvement and seek the views regularly. We ask that parents and carers encourage and support their children’s learning. We have open evenings each term when parents and carers can meet their child’s class teacher. We have an active parent teacher association which is known as the Friends of Henry Maynard School (FoHMS). We are involved as a school in many activities in our local community and have strong links with local primary and secondary schools as well as 6th Form Colleges. We raise funds for local, national and international charities and have an established association with our neighbouring residential care home. We have a school twitter account which sends out school and local community information.
To encourage reading across our school community a book swap trolley for parents and carers is available on a Friday morning outside both site offices. Parents and significant grown-ups are invited into classrooms every Friday morning to take part in Reading Morning with their children from Reception to Year 4. The Governors and staff at Henry Maynard Primary fully recognise the contribution we make to safeguarding children. All staff and Governors believe that our school should provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment, which promotes the social, physical and moral development of each individual child. We are committed to maintaining an ethos where children feel secure and are encouraged to talk and are always listened to. A copy of the Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies are available on the school website. Keeping children safe is our key priority. All visitors must access the school via the main entrance, sign in at the school office and are issued with security badges which should be clearly displayed.

Hi everyone, Me and my brother have studied at Henry Maynard school in the years of 1983 and 1984. Although long time ago, I still have good memories of the school and its multi ethnical enviornment. Did anyone studied with Mr Meagher? I would like very much to know more about him. Cheers
