Hurlingham is a non-selective independent preparatory school based in Putney. We provide a balanced and rounded education in which every child is treated as an individual. Within our purpose built and spacious building, we are able to provide excellent facilities including a large gym, ballet and drama studio. Specialist science, art, ICT and music rooms allow us to deliver a varied and exciting curriculum. Our close proximity to Wandsworth Park provides us with facilities for football, tag rugby, hockey, netball, rounders, cricket and athletics as well as additional recreational space.
The School’s ethos is to provide a happy, secure atmosphere in which children can be the best that they can be. Our experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic staff provide opportunities for the children which strongly promote creativity and independence of thought; we feel these are essential attributes for a child growing up in the 21st Century. We nurture self-confidence, self-discipline, self-motivation, self-esteem and above all a thirst and enjoyment for learning. We continue to foster an intimate and welcoming environment centred on family values, with a strong focus on good manners and respect for one another. Our aims are:
We are a co-educational, non-selective school. We are committed to equal treatment for all and we welcome all children, irrespective of their ethnic origin.
Deciding on the right school for your child is very important, and we believe that a personal visit is invaluable. We very much hope, therefore, that you will visit us.
There is no entrance exam or interview for children joining us in Reception but we do prefer that children have a conversational ability in the English language and we insist that they are out of nappies before they join us. Places are offered in order of registration, although priority is given to siblings of children already in the school and those living within 1.2km of the school.
For children wishing to join us after the Reception year, we ask for a report from their current school and invite them to come and visit us for a morning assessment.
Our policy is to apply our admission criteria to all potential pupils. We welcome pupils with learning difficulties, providing that our Learning Support Department can offer them the support that they require. We welcome children with physical disabilities providing that our site can cope with them. We will discuss thoroughly with parents and their medical advisers the adjustments that can reasonably be made in order for the child if he/she was to become a pupil at our school. We will need to ensure, however, that we are able to make the necessary adjustments to ensure that the prospective pupil is not put at a substantial disadvantage compared to a pupil who is not disadvantaged because of a disability.
Prior to being offered a place for their child, all parents are required to complete a pupil questionnaire requesting information regarding any significant dietary, medical or learning difficulties and/or disabilities in respect of their child. In assessing any prospective pupil we may take any such advice and request any such assessments as we regard appropriate. Above all, we must feel that we will be able to educate and develop the prospective pupil to the best of his or her potential and in line with the general standards achieved by the pupil's peers.
At Hurlingham School, we are proud of our broad and balanced curriculum. We develop our teaching and learning through a respectful but critical approach to UK National Curriculum documentation, placing due emphasis on English, Mathematics and Science whilst enhancing all areas of each and every child’s development by incorporating the arts, sports, languages and technology.
