The Atherton International School is a unique school. Founded in the 1970’s, the school was originally built to educate the international families contracted for the shipbuilding industry in the small town of Okpo on the beautiful South Korean island of Geoje (Koje).

The Atherton International School is a small school which provides a welcoming family atmosphere to students and parents. We were pleased to have this confirmed by CIS in the school accreditation report in May 2021 "The schools culture is warm, friendly and positive, an observation emphatically shared by all constituents."

AIS is an inclusive, international learning community for children from the age of 2 to 18. AIS provides an education which promotes academic achievement, social responsibility and global awareness.

We follow the International Early Years, Primary and Middle Years Curriculum and are fully accredited by the International Curriculum Association to teach the three curricula. Our high school students follow the Cambridge IGCSE and A Level programmes for which we are also fully approved by Cambridge International Education. Our secondary students also work towards the William Pike Challenge Award and the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. AIS is also a member of CIS- The Council of International Schools, and fully accredited by WASC the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

AIS students and teachers take pride in their school. The teachers model life long learning through current and continuous professional development and the children experience personalised learning which equips them well for university and beyond. AIS students are confident learners who are willing to challenge themselves to achieve their best; they are resilient and determined to succeed. AIS students demonstrate compassion and empathy towards each other and enjoy being part of the AIS community.

The AIS campus is a purpose built facility with a newly refurbished Early Years centre opening in August. The science labs and design technology rooms are well equipped and in addition to this we benefit from a large outdoor space which includes an athletics track, adventure playground and garden area, where the children can explore the natural environment and grow their own vegetables. A broad selection of after school activities are available to further enrich the children’s learning experiences.

Amazing school, wonderful staff, Mr. Dave is the best teacher my daughter ever had so far. Thanks to ISK and its staff for beautiful 3 years my daughter spent there.
