Isaac Newton Academy is a non-denominational, non-selective school, welcoming girls and boys from all backgrounds from the local community. The secondary school opened with just 180 Year 7 students in September 2012. Each year it will welcome another cohort of pupils until it has 1250 11-18 year olds in 2018 (including a sixth form of 350).
In September 2014, Isaac Newton Academy opened a primary phase which has just moved into purpose-built accommodation right next to the secondary academy. We currently have 90 reception children at the primary school, under the leadership of Tam Broadway, Head of Primary. INA Primary will be 3 form entry primary school, with 90 children in each year group. Like the secondary school, it will grow a year group at a time.
At Isaac Newton Academy our aim is to equip every student with the knowledge, learning power and character necessary for success at university and beyond. We:
At Isaac Newton Academy we believe that all students have the potential to achieve outstanding educational outcomes. We know that the brain is like a muscle, in that its intelligence grows with exercise. Scientists are learning that people have more capacity for life-long learning and brain development than they ever thought.Although individuals have a unique genetic endowment and start with different temperaments and aptitudes, we know that experience, training and effort are critically important. It is not always those who start out the smartest who end up the smartest. This has implications for how we teach and communicate with students.
We have recruited outstanding teaching and support staff who share our ethos of high expectations and no excuses and we have prioritised their ongoing training and development. At Isaac Newton Academy we take a systematic approach to assessment, establishing baselines, tracking students frequently and using regular diagnostic assessments. Each student has an assessment profile and clear progress path. Each scheme of learning has clear learning objectives. Progress is shared regularly with students and their families so that appropriate support and challenge can be planned and provided. We regularly and rigorously evaluate and assess all that we do as staff to provide a first class education for our students, and strive to constantly improve the quality of teaching and educational provision.
