The Islamic College of Brisbane was established in January 1995. It offers high quality education at both primary and secondary levels. The college is situated on the outskirts of the city next to a large nature reserve, the Karawatha forest. The College is proud of its excellent academic achievements and awards won over the years and continues to maintain this level. The school's main objective is to provide an education of the highest quality. The medium of instruction is English in all subjects except in Arabic Language studies and Quranic studies. From Prep to Year 10 the Australian curriculum is followed in the key learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science and History and pending approval by State Education Ministers will commence implementing, Prep to Year 10 Geography. The Queensland curriculum is maintained for all other learning areas.

Year 11 and 12 follow the QSA (Queensland Studies Authority) devised curriculum for all subjects. The teaching program is tailored to cater to the needs of students of different ages, abilities, aptitudes and levels of development. The school has a learning support program catering for students with ESL (English as a Second Language) needs and other learning difficulties. There are contingencies for in-class teacher support as well as individual (or group). The guidelines for standards of learning as stated in the Australian and Queensland syllabuses are adhered to.

Arabic is taught from Prep to Year 10 as the LOTE (Language Other Than English) subject. Arabic is a compulsory second language, the teaching of which provides better understanding of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith. In religious education, a sound program in Islamic studies is offered. This consists of Quran recitation, Islamic history, Fiqh, Tawheed, Hadiths and Akhlaq (moral training).

The school has devised evaluation and assessment procedures to ensure that the students achieve required educational standards. To assess individual student performance relative to Queensland state student achievement levels and the school’s overall performance compared to other schools in the state and across Australia results from testing undertaken annually at: Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 by the NAPLAN (National Assessment – Literacy and Numeracy) Program, at Years 3 to 12 by the University  of NSW Educational Assessment Australia ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) exams and various corporate sponsored competitions are used as the indicative measurement.

We run classes from Prep to Year 12. The primary classes range from Year 1 to Year 6, and the secondary education includes Years 7 to 12. On completion of Year 12, students receive the Queensland Senior Certificate from the Queensland Studies Authority and/or Queensland Tertiary Entrance Statement from the Tertiary Entrance Procedures Authority. To be eligible for a Senior Certificate, students must successfully complete Year 12; and to be eligible for a Tertiary Entrance Statement the students must successfully complete the equivalent of at least FIVE Board Subjects taken over 4 semesters.
