Kelston Boys’ High School

Welcome to the Kelston  Boys whānau. Kelston Boys’ High School / Te Kura Tuarua o ngā Tamatāne o Kerehana is a school with a long tradition of providing all-around excellence and developing exemplary young men. As the only full-state boys’ secondary school in West Auckland, Kelston Boys’ High School is a “School of Achievers” with many past Kelstonians excelling in the fields of academia, art, business, community, and sports.

Our school’s vision of “Inspiring growth through wisdom and honour / Hihikotia kia tupu ai tōna matauranga me tōna mana Motuhake” provides the direction for learning to be innovative, engaging, and relevant. Success for our students is demonstrated through our school values of:

We strive to be nationally recognised as exemplary in all areas of school life, where our students excel in an environment of manaaki and high expectations.  Focusing on effective teaching practices that embrace the diverse cultural identities of our students, we have built an expertise in educating boys. Our staff are committed to their own professional development and model lifelong learning in the pursuit of positive outcomes for our students and we want our community to view Kelston Boys as a school that will inspire their sons to be successful role models.

KBHS Provides

A stimulating and safe learning environment that:

• Encourages full participation by boys in all activities
• Promotes self-expression and respect for the many different paths to manhood

Educational programs tailored to meet the developmental needs of boys where:

• Boys gain confidence in their ability to learn without being compared to girls who mature more quickly and tend to enjoy more success in school
• Exciting books and curricular materials are integrated into all aspects of the school’s program
• Boys are taught and coached by teachers who have chosen to teach in a boys’ school
• Boys can grow and develop at their own pace and can “be boys” for as long as they need without society’s pressures

• Boys need to not waste energy posturing or trying to live up to gender stereotypes prevalent in the media and society
