Located in Nagakute-cho, Japan, Kids International School is a private early childhood education school for ages one through six. Its vision is to provide children with a strong base of self-esteem, develop and facilitate meaningful experiences, and grasp children's curiosity to learn in an exciting and safe environment. This is accomplished in a child-orientated environment in which a child feels free to question, research, and predict real life concepts that interest them through play, theme-based projects, and teacher directed activities. Kids International School practices team support, as well as parent and family involvement in our children's developmental path.
Kids International School gives a unique opportunity for our children to experience likenesses and differences that exist in the world through our international community. Although English is used as a means of communication, we understand that to some children English is a foreign language and we patiently guide them as they develop language at their own pace.
Our school community consists of families who have relocated to Japan from other countries, as well those who are Japanese nationals. Through a carefully designed curriculum, we assure families who have relocated to Japan that our children are given the proper instruction needed to smoothly transition back to their home country and not be behind in reading and math. As for Japanese nationals, we assure a good base for continued English language progression, as well as a head start in math concepts.
Our belief in the early years of learning is that children learn through play and active involvement in their environment. It is our priority to ensure this is done in nurturing, safe, and positive surroundings. By maintaining this environment, Kids International School offers our children the freedom of continued growth: socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. In addition, we strongly support parent and family involvement in our learning community.
The principles and learning standards that guide our curriculum are driven by current research in early childhood education, as well as learning standards that match those in England, Australia, Canada, and the United States of America-as well as Japan. Through these learning standards, our certified staff delivers a creative curriculum which responds to our children's current interests and needs through daily experiences, themes, and special projects. Team teaching consists of a foreign teacher and a Japanese teacher, creating a low student to teacher ratio.
The early childhood experiences are a critical time in ones life for building a strong foundation for future development and learning. Whether your family is relocating to Japan from overseas, or your family was born and raised in Japan, we hope this websites can be of help in learning more about our school and the educational ideals we hold important. We look forward to answering any questions you may have as you search for a learning community that will be most beneficial to your child's developmental needs.
Our philosophy seeks to develop children's self-esteem and respect for others within an international environment as they begin their path to becoming life-long learners and responsible and productive citizens of the world. Our low teacher to child ratio enables this philosophy to be executed as it allows individual children to receive an ample amount of positive attention allowing the teacher and child to bond and build a relationship based on trust and communication.
The classrooms and facilities are all child friendly and our outside has a playground, a pool in the summer, and a garden which is cared for by all the children. The children are seperated by age into four classrooms, from one through six years old. Each classroom has two teachers. Classroom daily schedules vary due to developmental levels and age readiness. KEC English School has developed a unique curriculum designed to encourage and motivate the natural curiosity within children. We teach English through many different methods, all of which are fun and engage students with hands-on learning. Each month has a set theme as well, from Halloween in October and Christmas in December. We also hope students can begin to understand international cultures through these lessons and interactions with the foreign teacher.
There are a pair of teachers in each class, one foreign teacher and one Japanese teacher. Together they decide how to set up their room (using the materials and furniture already at KIS), design their daily schedule and create their curriculum themes. The class rooms typically have child size tables for work and eating, child size chairs, cubbies for personal belongings, and various other shelves used for display and storage as well as drying racks for art work. Each room is individualized by their teachers and children. There are common areas that teachers create documentation panels for families and future clients to observe. Each class either has it's own child size toilet room and wash sink, or one right next door. All of the rooms have plenty of natural light and large windows.
