Kingsway College is a private, Christian, boarding and day, co-ed high school (Grades 9-12). It is located in Oshawa, Ontario and is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Our mission is to reflect Jesus Christ and prepare students for His service. Our program is designed to develop the whole person, focusing on the academic, spiritual, physical, and social aspects of the student.

Kingsway College’s history began in the fall of 1903 in Lorne Park, a beautiful fruit farming area fifteen miles west of Toronto. By 1911, larger buildings and more equipment were necessary to meet the needs of the growing student body, and after some deliberation, the present site in Oshawa was chosen. The school, renamed Buena Vista Academy because of the beautiful view of Oshawa and Lake Ontario, opened in the fall of 1912. That year the school was conducted in temporary quarters because the new site had only one stone house and two barns.

The College received its Letters Patent on December 20, 1919, and Supplementary Letters Patent on June 1, 1966. Kingsway College is accredited by the Board of Regents of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. It is also inspected regularly by the Ontario Ministry of Education, and issues the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Kingsway College is located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, approximately 60 kilometers east of Toronto, in a park-like setting on approximately 75 acres of land. We have been in existence since 1903. Currently there are approximately 270 students enrolled in grades nine through twelve. The majority of our students live in residence halls on campus as boarding students. Students of all faiths are welcome to apply for admission.

There are many opportunities for students to develop their personal relationship with God throughout the week by reading of the Bible, meditation, and prayer. As a school family weattend a spiritual assembly on Wednesday mornings in our chapel. KC students take turns coordinating and participating in the event through worship in music, prayer, and various dramatic presentations.

We begin our Sabbath at sundown on Friday evening with vespers, followed by Sabbath School on Saturday morning, mostly planned and led by student leaders and/or other small groups. Then, we join our church family at the College Park SDA Church just a short walk down the street. Many of our students participate in these corporate worship experiences, as well, either individually or through participation of the Band, Choir, or Praise Teams.

Members of the Kingsway staff, along with College Park Church families, also participate in the “Friend in touch” program, where families pray for, encourage with little notes, and anonymously send small care packages to their “adopted” kids to let them know they have a second family who cares about them.

Kingsway College offers approximately 70 different courses from Grades 9 to 12. All courses are offered in accordance with Ontario policy documents as outlined by the Ontario Schools (OS) document. The secondary school curriculum is organized into several types of courses intended to enable students to choose courses that are suited to their strengths, interests, and goals.

Academic - A focus on the essential concepts of the discipline plus additional related concepts. Academic courses develop students' knowledge and skills by emphasizing theoretical, abstract applications of the essential concepts while incorporating practial applications, as appropriate.

Applied - A focus on the essential concepts of the discipline. Applied courses develop students' knowledge and skills by emphasizing practical, concrete applications of the essential concepts while incorporating theoretical applications, as appropriate.

Open - An open course has one set of expectations for that subject and is appropriate for all students. In Grades 11 & 12, Kingsway offers four types of courses, University - These courses are designed to prepare students for entrance to university programs following high school. University/College - These courses are designed to prepare students for both college and university programs after high school. College - These courses are designed to include the knowledge and skills to prepare students for entrance to most college programs following high school. Open - An open course has one set of expectations for that subject and is appropriate for all students.

Throughout high school, students will work with their parents and the VP of Academics & President to make course selections.  When choosing courses, students should consider their abilities, interests, and future plans, as well as Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirements.  Many colleges and universities require specific courses for particular programs that may not be part of the compulsory courses for a secondary school diploma.  Students should consult college/university calendars or see the Principal for further information.
