Kingswood College derives its name and ideals from an 18th-century college established by John Wesley (the founder of the Methodist Church) in Bristol, England in 1748 and is one of the oldest Methodist educational institutions in South Africa.
Kingswood College is a friendly, welcoming place with a strong sense of family. As one of South Africa’s leading independent, co-educational schools, we welcome boys and girls from all over the world as boarders and day pupils from Grade 000 in Pre-Primary to Grade 12, including a Bridging Year (Post Matric).
Located in the heart of the Eastern Cape, Kingswood boasts some of the country’s finest academic, music, boarding and sporting facilities that are enhanced by our varied programme of co-curricular activities, clubs and societies, lifetime sports, spiritual guidance, and cultural events that enrich the lives of all our pupils.
Our beautiful, intimate campus and our rich Methodist tradition make it more than just a school, but a home where all belong.
The Kingswood Pre-Primary environment encourages a curious and enquiring mind, where learning is not confined to the classroom but extends to every aspect of the daily routine, from art classes to climbing the jungle gym or building an imaginary castle! Our goal is to provide a solid foundation for our pupils in a stimulating, safe and loving environment. We nurture each child’s attributes and celebrate their individuality, enabling them to build confidence and reach their full potential.
At the end of Gr R we bid farewell to happy, well-adjusted children who are ready to take the next exciting step in their education at the Kingswood College Junior School.Children learn best when they are happy, confident and their curiosity is stimulated, so we feel it is very important that learning is fun, creative, inspirational and active. To enrich the curriculum we use aspects of both Letterland and the Neuronet programmes within our usual classroom activities.
Technology is very much a part of life for children today, but achieving a balance between screen time and free play, learning and activities is essential. At Kingswood, we embrace it as a means of enriching our lessons when it offers our pupils innovative ways to explore new concepts or develop skills. iPads are used in the Grade 00 and Grade R classes with carefully selected educational Apps which are used in only very controlled and monitored lessons.
At Kingswood, our smaller classes and intimate campus mean we can support your child’s natural talents, while also taking the time and care to get to know your child.
Academic support, in the form of a fully-qualified remedial teacher, is also available to assist in identifying barriers to learning, to suggest an appropriate course of instruction, and to provide remedial tuition and/or extra lessons. The fourth area of prominence is the core academic programme, which includes physical and religious education, music, drama and art. Each child is encouraged to develop his or her individuality whilst recognising that personal freedom also involves responsibility to others.
With an emphasis on academic excellence and individual attention from well-qualified and attentive staff, Kingswood College provides a space where pupils can develop their full potential in small classes.
The IEB (Independent Examination Board) offers a Grade 12 exit examination that equips pupils for admission to all South African, and most overseas, universities. With proud sporting traditions, a excellent Music School, and an enriching outreach and spiritual programme that is integral to the functioning of the College, Kingswood is a home-from-home to pupils from all over the world. Our pupils are renowned for their friendliness and fine manners.
From the classroom to the sports field, in labs and theatres, music rooms and the chapel, on excursions and field trips, Kingswoodians are challenged, busy, cared-for and included. There is a deep sense of community on campus which is only strengthened by being both co-educational and our balance between boarding and day schooling, which brings our local community that much closer.
One thing you don’t need to explain to any Old Kingswoodian or friend of the College (whether a past or present member of staff, parent, council member or a friend), is how much Kingswood means to its community. And this is why the Kingswoodian Club, established in 2015, exists today. As a means to keep us all connected to the school we love, and the history we share.
Old Kingswoodian’s carry the School’s values with them wherever they go and we’re delighted that so many keep in regular touch. You can maintain your links with Kingswood right here – and play an active part in School life for many years to come.
The Kingswoodian Club is the umbrella organisation for the broader Kingswood community, including not just Alumni, but past members of staff, parents, council members and invited friends of the College. All Alumni are automatically given life membership to the Kingswoodian Club on matriculating from Kingswood, as are their parents.

Kingswood College is a fantastic institution in ever respect. I would find it difficult to critisize an aspect of the "Kingswood experience" even if I had the desire to do so. I can recommend this school very highly and without any reservation
