KVS aims to provide a human-scale, democratic school life that inspires a life-long love of learning for students and staff alike. Our school couples the Victorian Curriculum with the Village School Curriculum to provide a unique teaching and learning environment. Our philosophy and guiding principles inform how we go about our day-to-day school life at KVS.
Children have lots of opportunities to make decisions and have a say over how their day looks. We also encourage adventure – physical, social and academic, and have lots of excursions, camps and extra-curricular activities. Our learning program is flexible and tailored to the needs of individual students, as we collaborate with each student to develop their skills to become effective life-long learners.
KVS operates on a slightly different timetable to other schools. We have found that breaking our year into six-week cycles (five weeks of school, followed by a one week break) allows students and mentors to be refreshed and fully engaged for the full cycle without running out of steam as the term progresses. School commences at the same time as other schools at the start of the year and finishes at the same time at the end of the year. The total number of days that KVS students will be at school is roughly the same as at other independent schools.
