Krida Wacana Christian University

UKRIDA was officially founded on January 20, 1967 by the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 202/DPT/I/1970. At the beginning, UKRIDA was established under the name of Djaya Christian University under the auspices of Yayasan Badan Pendidikan Kristen Jawa Barat. In its early years UKRIDA has three faculties: The Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Economics.

UKRIDA was founded by an initiative from a few Christian public figures, such as Prof. Dr. J. L. Ch. Abineno, Uripto Widjaya, Ny. Dr. Pouw Houw Tjiang, Ny. J. M. Rumambi, dr. J. Suwarno with D. Sutedja, Swandjaja, Kol. Dr. F. Pattiasina, dr. O. E. Engelen, Pdt. C. Suleeman, M. Th., and Pdt. Lukito Handoyo, to establish a Christian college as a form of faith and service in higher education for the nation and development in Republic of Indonesia. The initiative was supported by Prof. Dr. Siwabessy (Minister of Health at that time) and Ps. W. J. Rumambi (Minister of Communication and Information at that time).

Since most of the famous figures’ initiative were the members of the Gereja Kristen Indonesia Jawa Barat (GKI Jawa Barat), the council of GKI synod in West Java welcomed their decision warmly. In the 23th meetings on 15 September, 1965, they finally decided to establish the Djaya Christian University, and appointed the Christian Education Body of West Java (Badan Pendidikan Kristen Jawa Barat) as the manager.

The vision of Krida Wacana Christian University is "To be an organizer of excellent Higher Education Tridharma based on Christianity values in national and international level". Mission is Krida Wacana Christian University has the mission of To nurture a community of faith with the highest wisdom, intellect and skill that creates value to society. To provide and continuously improve conducive education environment, accommodate diversity, and optimize students’ potential through relevant environmental friendly technology & lifestyle. To conduct advanced research programs that yield source of credible references.
To develop staff professionally and actualize their best potentials. An internationally recognized Christian University in advancing innovative research and active learning.

The logo of UKRIDA was created by dr. Hendra Sutardhio and has been officially used since 16 March, 1969.The meaning of each symbol on the logo of UKRIDA are described as follows:Pentagon symbolizes Pancasila. Cross symbolizes Christianity. Book (upholding the cross sign) symbolizes Knowledge (applied for the glory of God). Blue symbolize Color of UKRIDA. Yellow symbolize Color of Students. Serration symbolize Close interwoven between UKRIDA and Students. Circle symbolize Unity and Integrity. Lotus symbolize Scientific. The number of serration is 20 pieces. The number of circle is 1 piece.The number of upper Lotus leaf petals is 6 pieces. The number of lower Lotus leaf petals is 7 pieces.This combination is the symbol establishment of Universitas Kristen Krida Wacana on 20 January 1967.
