Kwangwoon University

Kwangwoon University is a private research university in Seoul , South Korea. Kwangwoon University has been recognized for its academic reputation in engineering and IT fields. Kwangwoon University was ranked 56th in Asia in field of Engineering in the 2014 and 2015 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)and ranked 16th in Korea in field of Science and Engineering in 2015 by Korea Economic Daily.

In 1934, Dr. Cho, Kwangwoon founded Chosun Radio Technical Institute with pioneering insight. He believed the electronics will lead the future industry and our nation’s independence will depend on education and practical training of our people. Thousands of Chosun Radio Technical Institute graduates built South Korea’s infrastructure in electronics and electronics communication industry. At our founding and it continues to this day Dr. Cho’s founding principles remains at the heart of every Kwangwoon family: “Be diligent at all work,” “Pursue economy at all behavior” and “Seek to self-motivate at work”.

Kwangwoon Institute for Advanced study was established to enhance academic research at Kwangwoon University. Activities conducted at Kwangwoon Institute for Advanced study include research on interdisciplinary and fusion studies, academic exchanges with domestic and foreign educational and research institutes, collection, organization, and compilation of research materials.

For the past 84 years, Kwangwoon University has led South Korea’s Wireless-Communication and Electronics industries. Our alumni and faculty have distinguished themselves in both science and humanities. With our students, we are meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

Kwangwoon University founding Philosophy is to educate students become the ‘lighthouse leaders’ who can guide others to the right path and who strive to cultivate their characters through tireless exploration, practice and pursuit of humanistic purpose and values.
