Lion House School is unique, incorporating both a Nursery and a Pre-Preparatory school which enables children to stay in the same learning environment for the all-important first five years of their education. This gives them a confidence which will stay with them throughout their lives.

At Lion House School we aim to create a happy and harmonious learning environment. We strive to help each child reach their full potential, whatever their ability, whilst at the same time helping them to discover that school and learning are fun. The school is a nurturing setting where individuals are celebrated for their achievements, large or small.

At Lion House we encourage curiosity and creativity along with traditional values such as friendship and respect for one another. From the very beginning we encourage independence and a sense of achievement. Academic standards are high but we put the same emphasis on all aspects of a child’s development. Every child has their own strengths and these are nurtured and celebrated. Our aim is for all our pupils to leave Lion House confident, happy and well prepared for the next steps in their education.

We offer a wide and varied curriculum supported by a range of teaching methodologies, which stimulate interest, promote creativity and help the children to think critically and learn independently. The curriculum is challenging and targeted so every child learns at their own pace to ensure they reach their full potential. Children learn to work co-operatively and independently and all are encouraged to reach their potential in all areas of the curriculum.

English and maths are the core of the curriculum with history, science, geography, art and design, ICT, PHSE and RE linked though cross-curricular topics. Music, drama and all sports are taught by specialist teachers.

Life in the Lion House School Nursery is great fun and no two days are ever the same. The nursery class is in a large and airy room where the children have a wonderful choice of activities. Our Early Years team consists of highly qualified and well-trained practitioners, some of whom are Montessori practitioners and all of whom are committed to ensuring that the children have the best possible start to their schooling.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for children aged 3 years to 5 years old. Children learn through a combination of teacher-initiated and child-led activities and, of course, play! We aim to provide a stimulating and caring environment where children feel secure and valued, which makes the transition from home to school as easy as possible.

We understand how important the link between home and nursery is, and encourage parents to share their children’s successes at home as well as ensuring that they are kept up to date on all school activities through school-parent communications and our Facebook page.Progression from the Nursery to Reception is seamless. The children are happy and confident to move up in the school, as they already know the environment and the teachers. The Reception teacher and her assistant reinforce this smooth transition by visiting the children and parents at home prior to the start of the school year.
