What started as a simple vision in 1994 has blossomed into over 300 students from Grades K to 12. We celebrated our first graduating class in 2012. We continue to have a 100% graduation rate with alumni well-placed in a variety of excellent post-secondary institutions.
It’s been an incredible journey of faith, commitment and perseverance and has resulted in the strong school community that is Lions Gate Christian Academy today. It has been anything but your typical school journey and the efforts of parents, teachers, students, friends, and board members typify the core values we instill in our students at LGCA. From donations to moves, painting, construction, landscaping and more, our entire school community has been there to help. The result is a school that everyone views as theirs. We wouldn’t want it any other way!
2014 marks a pivotal year for LGCA as we move to our new location at 919 Tollcross Road. The new facility allows us to expand our curriculum and sports programs and positions us for continued growth. Not too big though! We still want Lions Gate Christian Academy to be a school where everyone knows each other and holds a strong sense of Christian community.
Our vision is not to be the largest school on the North Shore, but to have well-educated students with the biggest hearts towards one another and their local and global communities. We are so pleased that you have taken this opportunity to visit the Lions Gate Christian Academy website. This year we are happy to announce our new Purpose Statement LGCA is a community, rooted in the teachings of Jesus, where all students are loved, challenged, and equipped to be purposeful contributors in their communities.
This statement encapsulates what we see happening at LGCA. Furthermore, I know it is a statement that the dedicated team here at LGCA is certainly committed to. At LGCA, we join forces with home and church to establish a firm foundation for your children. The earlier the start, the better! We value the family atmosphere at Lions Gate Christian Academy. Our community is built on parent participation and daily communication.
We purpose to address academic, spiritual, physical, emotional, moral and social skills. We guide the minds of curious children to explore God’s creation, and to gain understanding and appreciation of our world. We want our students to know God's plan for their lives and walk in it. We encourage our students to develop their God-given abilities in every area of life. We have three school-wide rules Demonstrate mutual respect (for God, yourself and others). - Try your best. - Have fun!
Lions Gate Christian Academy offers the BC curricula established by the Ministry of Education. As an independent, interdenominational Christian school, we have the privilege of teaching this curricula from a Christian Worldview. Our teachers are all provincially certified and committed Christians.
Our High School program continues to build on the foundation of our strong elementary foundation. In High School, youth face many changes and decisions as they mature physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We strive to remain sensitive to the needs of individual students and to support and equip them through knowing them, loving them and teaching them to think Christianly in all subject areas.
Our High School students are offered a variety of electives and challenged to excel in all subject areas. Students have access to a computer lab, sciences lab, art and home economics facilities. They are given opportunities for leadership and community service including, in grades 11/12, an annual missions trip to serve in a developing country. Students lead chapels through worship teams and frequently share testimonies or special applications of scripture.
Students enroll in core academic subjects including Maths, Sciences, Social Studies, English, French, Bible, Planning 10, Grad Transitions and PE. Electives combine with the core subjects to complete the program. Elective subjects will vary based on the school means and student interests. Currently, the electives we offer are Fine Arts, Music/Band, Home Economics, Information Technology, Outdoor Education and yearbook publication.
