Ludus, a Latin word that refers to game, play, pastime and school in ancient Rome culture.

We aim to integrate fun and interesting elements into our teaching curriculum, allowing children to value the learning process more than the outcome. We promote ‘edu-tainment’ (educational entertainment), allowing children to learn while playing, to explore the surrounding spontaneously, and most importantly, to find out the best way for themselves to learn. We hope that children’s time in Ludus Kindergarten & Nursery would be a valuable, meaningful and precious memory in life.

Ludus also refers to the training school of gladiators in ancient times. We aim to teach children to be an independent, courageous, loving, caring and reliable individual, to enhance children’s curiosity in interacting with the nature, so as to become one of the future leaders in society.

The badge of Ludus features a squirrel. Squirrels are vibrant, lively, clever, cute and kind – these characteristics reflect our aspirations of the qualities of the new generation. We aim to develop simple and modest personality traits, positive emotions and values in the next generation.

Just like the squirrel shuttling freely to and fro in nature, living, growing and learning in the most suitable and appropriate environment, Ludus aims to provide children with the same ideal learning environment. The simplicity of our school badge reflects our beliefs, that children’s cheerful personality should be established under the most natural and non-stressful environment, allowing them to have healthy and balanced development emotionally and physically.

Both the wild ginger plant (the plant from which the Chinese name of the kindergarten is taken from) and the squirrel have in common - vitality and resilience. We wish that children will be able to establish their curiosity and sensitivity about the world, as well as the persistent spirit of exploration under Ludus’ teaching philosophy and mission. With close collaboration between teachers and parents, we wish to open up channels for children to obtain knowledge, as well as to learn how to learn through hands-on experiences, logical thinking and group work to nurture their cultural awareness, broaden their horizons towards the world, and build up their courage to obtain knowledge.

Although squirrels are small, they are still indispensable for enhancing the spirit of nature. Ludus values each and every single child and is determined to provide the most natural guidance to children in order to maximise their ultimate potential, consolidating a foundation for their future development and growth.

Ludus Kindergarten and Nursery is committed to innovate and reformulate the current stereo-typed education model to cultivate positive, active, lively, smart, polite, creative and unique individuals from our next generation.

The resilience and the aroma of the wild ginger plant (from which the Chinese name of the kindergarten is derived) symbolise the expectations that we have from the next generation: extraordinary perseverance, integrity, innovativeness and continued progresses. We bear the heavy responsibility of educating the next generation, but refuse to allow haste to make waste, believing that early childhood education should not focus on what kinds of advanced knowledge children could learn, but on developing their own intrinsic creative abilities. In our era of information explosion, knowledge is easy to access, therefore it is vital to train children on their positive emotions and guide them with the right moral values so as to protect them from an imbalance between information and value. Hence, learning how to learn becomes much more important than channeling advanced knowledge to children.
