It will include the use of a software called GameMaker & Scratch that allows easy understanding of coding for beginners, as well as intermediate users. Throughout the days, participants will be challenged to expand their horizons and think out of the box to solve programming tasks. The Mars Coding Academy, a 10-day virtual camp will be catered to age groups from 10 years old to 18 years old. The camp will run from December 13th to 27th. The camp will introduce the following concepts to the students: Day 1: The Code An introduction to binary numbers and programming, giving participants an idea on how computers work and store data. Day 2: Artificial Intelligence Participants are shown behind-the-scenes of what goes on in a computer’s “mind” and how they are trained to make the decisions needed to run programs successfully. Day 3: AI Machines An introduction to how loops work, and how they are used by computers to run repetitive tasks carefully and with precision. Day 4: LoopHoles Participants are taught about the importance of the organization of a computer’s memory. Along with the introduction of Classes and Objects, participants are also shown the use of Arrays. Day 5: Developer Mode Participants are introduced to Scratch, the software they will use to build their Mars game. Day 6: Spaceship Launch Using the concepts of programming taught in the earlier days, participants start building their game. Their first task is to build a small spaceship. Day 7: Collision Course Participants are shown the differences between objects and sprites, and the significance of each in the programming of their game. Day 8: Battleships The concept of colliding objects is introduced, with participants coding their game in a way that they lose points when their spaceship collides with asteroids or space debris. Day 9: Space Warps Using their coding skills, participants are required to beautify their games and use their imagination to implement any objects that will make their game unique. Day 10: Mars Coding Mission Participants are required to complete their games and get ready for the final coding challenge. Mars Coding Academy will be provided in a virtual environment with live interaction and engagement from our Space Specialists who will answer any and all of your queries.
