Mayfield is a very special school in which to learn and play. Our school is surrounded by local parks, green spaces and leafy avenues. Our setting is lovely and unique to Ealing. Mayfield is a small school with a strong nurturing, caring ethos and community feel.

Our school is welcoming, friendly and supportive. Our staff are committed to improving outcomes for children, to widening their opportunities and extending their aspirations. Expectations of behaviour, attainment and progress are high. Our curriculum is vibrant and exciting and through it children develop a lifetime love of learning.

Cornerstones of our ethos are:

  • Dedicated, committed and talented teaching staff
  • Exciting and motivating ways of engaging learners from Circus Workshops to Writers in Residence and much more
  • The Mayfield Promises – a rigorous code of behaviour drawn up by the children to which all members of Mayfield must adhere
  • A caring and friendly environment for children, parents and staff

Mayfield Primary School is a happy and caring multi-cultural school. Mayfield Primary School aims to provide a happy, secure environment where all children can enjoy learning and achieve their full potential.

We are committed to ensuring that all children have access to all curriculum experiences irrespective of race, gender, class or ability. We are committed to safeguarding all children and take our role very seriously. We have a legal and moral responsibility to follow up any safeguarding concerns. We have robust systems in place to protect all children and follow these rigorously.

We aim to:

  • Provide a safe and secure learning environment in which children are encouraged to respect themselves and others. This includes learning to respect and apply religious and moral values.
  • Raise the self-esteem of all pupils and open doorways to learning.
  • Work in partnership with Governors, parents and the wider community to ensure effective learning opportunities are accessed for all pupils.
  • Help pupils to develop self-discipline and self-reliance.
  • Help pupils to grow in independence.
  • Help pupils become responsible, honest, trustworthy and reliable citizens.
  • Help pupils develop lively and enquiring minds and to listen and argue rationally.
  • Help pupils acquire a sense of respect for other people and property both in school and in the wider community.
  • Encourage individual talents and creativity and to offer opportunities for the whole school to share these experiences.
  • Encourage pupils to develop an active interest in caring for and appreciating the environment and the world.
  • Help pupils acquire knowledge and skills relevant to future adult life and employment in an ever-changing world.

Our school is welcoming, caring, safe and supportive. Children (and staff) are happy and enjoy coming to school. Our parents and carers describe us as a small school with a strong community (family) spirit. Our ethos embodies our mission statement - Striving Together for a Brighter Future - we work in partnership with our school community to ensure the best outcomes for all our children.

Children learn in an environment of mutual trust and respect. Teachers create classroom environments that are conducive to effective learning; calm, purposeful, support risk-taking and encourage cooperation and creativity.

We have high expectations of behaviour and academic performance and we expect all our children to work hard and to do their best.

Art and design is a valuable form of expression and communication for all our pupils. Through the art curriculum children are encouraged to see and experiment with a wide range of materials, equipment and techniques. Children learn about different kinds of art from various artists, cultures and traditions with a view to appreciating it and trying out the techniques used in their work.

In mathematics our children are taught number, shape and space, measures, data handling and they are given opportunities to use and apply mathematics to every day situations. From the time they start school at Mayfield our children are taught mathematics in a practical way providing a firm basis for future progression. When they have grounding in the basic skills and concepts, children are encouraged to use the above in estimations, problem solving and investigations. This leads our pupils toward logical thinking and self-confidence as well as using mathematics in everyday life situations.
