At Middle Georgia State University we’re committed to providing educational opportunities to fuel your dreams.
We have a wide array of certificate, associate, and baccalaureate programs that run the spectrum from the traditional liberal arts to professional programs to flight and aviation studies. Each of our five campuses boasts premier educational facilities, and MGA provides the technology-rich environment that you need to achieve your goals. Our accomplished and caring faculty put teaching first, and your academic success is at the very heart of our mission. We encourage you to explore the many academic programs that we offer. At the new Middle Georgia State University, your academic pathways multiply.
The Honors Program at Middle Georgia State University is designed to help academically advanced students develop their intellectual potential through even more challenging educational activities. Honors classes at MGA provide an opportunity for high-achieving MGA students to pursue their academic greatness.
Honors courses fulfill core curriculum requirements and are designed to be more innovative, enjoyable, and rewarding since students of similar abilities are grouped together in small, discussion-based classes. While students in general introductory classes are expected to gain a certain body of knowledge and display that knowledge on tests and in essays, students in Honors courses are asked to apply what they have learned in ways that are creative and that relate to their own interests and goals. Such perks as field trips and guest lecturers provide added bonuses. In addition to their inherent value, all of these classes are recorded with Honors designation on student transcripts, a distinction that draws favorable attention from prospective employers and graduate schools.
The Disability Services Office at MGA is committed to the lifelong development of individuals with disabilities. We envision a learning community that is welcoming of all individuals – one that embraces and celebrates the diversity of the campus while being sensitive to and supportive of the individual needs of each person. We strive to create an inclusive, informed, and accessible campus, community, and culture. We aim to educate and collaborate with students, faculty, staff and administrators, to accomplish our vision.
The Learning Support program provides students with additional preparation in mathematics and/or English. This program is designed to increase a student’s success during their college careers.
The Office of Financial Aid provides assistance for students who, without such aid, would be unable to attend Middle Georgia State University. It is the intention of the university to help as many students as possible by providing assistance with grants, scholarships, loans and/or student employment.
MGA is able to offer many students financial assistance. We realize that despite scholarship assistance and the reasonable cost of an MGA education, you and/or your family may not be able to provide the resources necessary to fund your college education. We hope that no student will fail to consider our institution due to financial reasons. The Financial Aid Office is committed to helping you find ways to finance your education. Our staff can help you sort through various types of financial aid, including the Georgia HOPE programs and Federal Student Aid Programs.
As the newest University in the University System of Georgia, we are excited to expand our student life offerings by including fraternities and sororities (Greek Life). Fraternities and sororities are meant to encourage academic excellence, leadership growth, building community, and pride in campus activities. Middle Georgia State University's fraternities and sororities are no exception to this rule and will serve the campus community through leadership positions, active involvement in on-campus activities, a strong dedication to academics, and engaging in philanthropic and community service endeavors that help maintain a strong country and community.
Middle Georgia State University has a history that is unlike most other institutions of higher education in the United States. Not only is it Georgia’s newest university -- as of July 2015 – it’s also one of Georgia’s oldest institutions. Its origins go back to the late 19th century, and its name has been changed several times.
Middle Georgia College continued to move forward, building athletic programs and new facilities. The college’s baseball team won four national junior college championships. The college opened a campus in Dublin; large student dormitories were constructed on the Cochran campus; and in 2007 the Georgia Aviation Technical College in Eastman was merged with Middle Georgia, giving the college three campuses.
In 2014, Dr. Christopher Blake became MGA’s first permanent president. In 2015, the Board of Regents approved the college’s proposal to offer master’s degrees, and the name of the institution was changed to Middle Georgia State University.
In 2015, a new mission statement was created as a result of the institution’s strategic planning process. That statement is: Middle Georgia State University educates and graduates inspired, lifelong learners whose scholarship and careers enhance the region through professional leadership, innovative partnerships and community engagement.
