Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences

Before you is a very special institution. Inaugurated by His Majesty on the 15th of December, 2016, the Mohammed VI University of Health and Medical Sciences (or UM6SS) responds to Royal Directives; in particular, those outlined in His Majesty’s speech to the 2nd National Conference on Health, July 1st, 2013 in Marrakesh.

In addition to training tomorrow’s healthcare elite, UM6SS, through the production of expertise and research, seeks to address not only the emerging health issues in Morocco, but the specific health needs of the African continent itself.

UM6SS has sought excellence since its very inception. We are the nation’s first world-class training hub — situated at the nexus of a unique array of medical, health and allied health sciences. Yet the production of such intellectual resources entails responsibilities as well. As a result, we are unwaveringly committed to establishing international exchanges and internships, having already concluded numerous cooperation agreements with flagship universities in Africa, Europe, North America, and Asia.

A key value and theme here is innovation. For instance, student-centered approaches to pedagogy are being introduced across the curriculum, employing both experiential learning and simulation-based methods. Moreover, the latest in information technology and communication tools are employed for the sake of educational outreach. Yet as a university we are decidedly more than mechanism for the delivery of courses, rather, we are a place where students, staff and faculty come to construct knowledge.

Beyond our affiliation with the Ministry of Health, UM6SS is affiliated with Cheikh Khalifa hospital, a state of the art teaching hospital where students obtain hands-on-experiences, and gain the manifold pedagogical benefits of anticipatory socialization: as they become concretely and realistically aware of their emerging responsibilities towards patients, colleagues, healthcare stakeholders and society.

In just 5 years we have grown to over 3,000 students, enrolled in 30 programs of study, that span 4 faculties and 2 schools. We provide in-service training for students of medicine, dentistry, surgery, radiology, nursing, biomedical engineering, healthcare management and public health, to name only a few.

At UM6SS we take the students informal learning experiences just as seriously as their formal ones. We offer a stimulating and vibrant student life, complete with a beautiful campus, housing, libraries, group study rooms, recreational spaces, and sports facilities.

Not only do we encourage and support students in their humanitarian and charitable endeavors, but we are also committed to establishing remote medicine projects that could serve regions of the country with low physician densities.

Our mission is to train health professionals committed to improving public health, using an integrated ecosystem that provides both infrastructure and capacity for innovative health projects.
