The Moordtij Yorga Scholarship supports female Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students that demonstrate strong leadership potential. The scholarship is available to students undertaking studies in a Curtin pathway course or undergraduate course.

Value
The Moordtij Yorga Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of three years (based on a full-time study load of 200 credits per year):

A cash stipend of $5,000 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses or general living expenses.

Application process

Step 1: Access online application form
Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt
Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Receipt of an offer of a place into an undergraduate degree at Curtin University in 2021
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Demonstrated academic potential
    • Demonstrated strong leadership skills or potential
    • Supporting references including references from current and past teachers and/or community/organisation representatives
    • Preference will be given to the following applicants:
      • From remote/regional communities and/or mature age applicants
      • Current in a Curtin College Pathways Program, or have come through a Curtin College Pathways Program into an undergraduate degree program at Curtin University in semester 1, 2021
      • Not already in receipt of a scholarship

Step 6: Outcome
Outcome will be sent via the email address listed through TISC in mid-January 2021 (all successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified)

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must return acceptance documents by 31 January 2021
  • Deferral of this scholarship is not permitted

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
  • Scholarship will commence from first semester of study
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another university

Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain an enrolment of at least 50 credit points each study period at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) 50 each study period
  • Pass all units attempted each study period

Changes to Enrolment
If a recipient intends to change their enrolment, they must also apply in writing to the Scholarships Office ([email protected]) for approval BEFORE the change. The Scholarships Office will advise how the change will affect their scholarship.

Withdrawal or Terminated from units or course: A recipient who withdraws from their units or course of study, or has been terminated from their studies will become ineligible for the continuation of the scholarship, will not receive any further payments and will be required to repay to Curtin University the stipend awarded for that study period if applicable.

Cancellation of Scholarship: Notwithstanding any provision above, Curtin reserves the rights, at its sole discretion, to cancel the award of, or continuity of, the scholarship where the sponsor ceases to fund the scholarship.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Moordtij Yorga Scholarship:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Identify as female
  • Currently undertaking a pathway course or an undergraduate degree at Curtin University in semester 1, 2021
  • Enrolled either full-time or part-time
  • Students commencing studies in and undergraduate course semester 1, 2021 must have attained
    • A minimum ATAR of 70 in their WACE, or
    • A minimum CWA of 60 if coming through one of Curtin's pathway programs
  • Current students (completed at least one unit of study in any study period in an undergraduate program) must have a minimum CWA of 70
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills or potential

Note:
Preference will be given to applicants:

  • From remote/regional communities and/or mature age applicants
  • Currently in a Curtin College Pathways Program, or have come through a Curtin College Pathways Program into an undergraduate degree program at Curtin University in semester 1, 2021
  • Not already in receipt of a scholarship
