MJPS is a cross community, mixed school with 50% of our children coming from across the Jewish community and 50% local children of all faiths, beliefs and none. We were delighted that Ofsted (2015) judged MJPS to be Outstanding in all areas and recognised that we have been successful in establishing a school community in which pupils of a wide range of faiths and cultures embrace and celebrate their diversity.

As head teacher I am dedicated to creating an environment in which our children can grow to their fullest potential as responsible members of the community and of British society. Our ethos is
summed up in the ancient Jewish hope:

  • Inspiration – We inspire children to create their best possible journeys in life, with confidence in their own cultures, heritage and beliefs.
  • Respect – We develop self-respect and expand an understanding of respect within and across the Jewish and local communities, British society and the wider world.
  • Excellence – We enable children to reach their full potential, emotionally, socially, academically and spiritually.

We aim for our pupils to become lifelong learners inspired by a love of “learning for the sake of learning” through a rigorous comprehensive academic programme of general and Jewish learning which places a priority on critical, independent and creative thought and expression.

We aspire to create a strong sense of community in school and to pursue excellence in delivering our integrated Jewish curriculum and the full National Curriculum. By inspiring and stimulating children’s interests the MJPS team motivate children to engage enthusiastically in their learning.

The Mosaic Jewish Primary School is a cross communal, mixed school, dedicated to creating an environment in which children can grow to their fullest potential as responsible and dedicated members of the Jewish community and of British society. The school opened in September 2013 under the Government’s Free School Initiative, with a reception class, incorporating progressively all year groups. This means that by the time the first children reach Year 6 in 2019 there will be up to 360 children in the school.

The school is independent of any synagogue authority and welcomes pupils of all denominations and levels of religious observance as well as non-Jewish pupils who wish to share in the high standards of academic achievement we deliver. Our pupils become lifelong learners inspired by a love of “learning for the sake of learning” through a rigorous comprehensive academic programme of general and Jewish studies which places a priority on critical, independent and creative thought and expression. At the same time, our pupils are encouraged to understand and appreciate the wisdom, spiritual depth and ethical guidance of Judaism.

Our school strives for academic excellence through a balanced curriculum of strong general coursework based on the national curriculum and a comprehensive Jewish studies programme. The introduction of Hebrew emphasises the connection to Jewish history and culture.

Our interdisciplinary approach highlights experiential learning across all subjects and helps students develop critical thinking, logical reasoning, creativity and strong writing skills.

We have developed a creative curriculum in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and National Curriculum. We teach within a caring and nurturing environment which develops the potential of all children, building their self esteem and confidence to enable them to develop the skills to think and learn effectively. We emphasise learning through cross-curricular links and real experiences. We appreciate that children learn by doing and being able to take an active part in their learning, which will enable them to build effectively on their interests and previous experiences.

We recognise the importance of preparing children for life in an ever changing world and the need for them to develop the skills to become independent and thoughtful learners who are able to find and evaluate information for themselves. We help prepare children to live active and purposeful lives as adults. Our ethos is summed up in the ancient Jewish hope: “May our children be our builders” and is based on the following three aspirations:

  • Inspiration:To inspire children to create their best possible journeys in life, with confidence in their own cultures, heritage and beliefs.
  • Respect:To develop self-respect and expand it within and across the Jewish community, British society and the wider world.
  • Excellence:To enable children to reach their full potential, emotionally, socially, academically and spiritually.

We recognise that children often require additional support that is ‘additional to’ and ‘different from’ other children in a class.Teaching staff at MJPS are committed to ensuring that learning is individualised ensuring that each child is motivated and challenged at their own level. Teachers work hard to get to know children and families from the outset ensuring that they are able to meet a range of differing needs and learning styles, which aims to provide the child with special support to achieve measurable and realistic targets.

Children who have a specific area of need are given an SEND Support Plan which is reviewed throughout the year. Children, parents and the school are very much part of this process. We recognise that having a child with a specific need can be challenging and at times frustrating. We are fully committed to supporting any children with additional needs providing them with the very best education possible.

At Mosaic Jewish Primary School we believe that all children should receive an education that motivates and allows them to succeed and achieve. We strive to provide creative and challenging lessons that meet the needs of the individual. It is important to note that our Gifted and Talented (G&T) register is fluid and flexible and therefore your child will not necessarily remain on it indefinitely. It is monitored, reviewed and updated on a termly basis.
