Moscow Aviation Institute

The mission of MAI is create the background of the world's top-level engineering manpower through forward-looking research at all stages of the aviation, rocket and space technology life cycle. MAI is engaged in all major partnership projects; it also cooperates with leading Russian and foreign industry-based corporations such as COMAC, ENAC, Safran, BrahMos Aerospace, HAL, PJSC “United Aircraft Corporation”, Roscosmos and Rostec and others. The high-tech projects in MAI are fulfilled with the help of advanced technologies in the following areas:

• Mathematical simulation;
• Lifecycle products management;
• Composite structures manufacturing;
• Integrated avionics;
• Engineering systems electrification.

MAI provides training throughout the lifecycle of high-technology products from the system design to the implementation of separate proceedings. MAI is one of the most popular universities in the field of aerospace training and in other high-tech industries. Among the university development areas are aircraft, space and energy systems, IT, new materials and production technologies, the multifaceted use of aerospace and digital technologies.

Most of the world's modern aviation and aerospace technology was created under the guidance of MAI graduates. Since the foundation of MAI more than 160 000 professionals have graduated. More than 70% of MAI graduates work for indusrty-based corporations. MAI holds the record among universities in the quantity of graduates who have become space and test pilots. There are 23 pilot-cosmonauts who spent more than 15 years performing space missions. 65 spacewalks were carried out. Many MAI graduates are currently working as cosmonauts. Educational process in MAi includes:

• Training combined with research program with help of advanced equipment;
• Implementation of advanced educational methods, including the use of e-learning technologies, etc;
• The use of everlasting design principle for all aircraft systems and space technology.

Students are engaged in research projects for industry-based Russian and foreign companies, which help students to see their prospects in these organizations. At the same time employers estimate the abilities of their future professionals. MAI operates in accordance with the system of educational standarts. Target training and lecturing staff retraining are carried out in MAI. Workers and postgraduates also have traineeships and advanced professional training on the basis of the world's leading research and educational organizations and industry-based companies.

The university has common use centers, resource centers, design bureaus, an airfield and other units. Start-up programs are conducted at the Novice Entrepreneur Center and in Business Development Center. MAI is the base for major international scientific and technical conferences and events that reflect the development of the university as an important educational organization aerospace complex such as:

• International Week of Aerospace Technology “Aerospace Science Week” including International Conference “Aviationa and Cosmonautics”;
• Interdisciplinary Youth Competition of Scientific and Technical Works and Projects “Youth and the Future of Aviation and Cosmonautics”;
• International Forum of leading universities of the aerospace industry;
• The International Youth Scientific Conference “Gagarin Readings” and others.
