Mt. Hira College was established in the year 2000 and is a co-educational Foundation to Year Twelve Islamic College, located in Keysborough. Mt. Hira College is committed to raising upstanding citizens of tomorrow and instilling lifelong learning in each and every student. Over the past two years we have seen a steady improvement in our quest for high expectations. In 2016, one hundred percent of our students completed their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and ninety two percent received a round one VTAC offer.
We continue our 2018 academic year with continual high expectations and a mission to develop each child to his or her fullest academic and spiritual potential. Our teaching staff is committed to nurture and challenge your child to achieve their goals and we ask that you partner and collaborate with us in this endeavour. Your children receive the best education when you and our dedicated teachers work as a team. It is a parent’s enthusiasm, support and involvement that inspires children to do their best and along with our wonderful and nurturing staff these goals can be achieved.
Our focus will be on continuing a culture of high expectations for all students, to ensure that teachers provide exemplary teaching pedagogy and to maintain a positive and safe school environment. The pedagogical vision at Mt Hira College is to promote holistic education through positive relationships and provide engaging learning opportunities by empowering individuals to succeed.
The mission of Mt Hira College is to inspire and encourage ‘Life Long Learning’ in each student by catering for their social, emotional, academic and spiritual needs within a positive, safe, caring, challenging and supportive learning environment. We are committed to raising upstanding and responsible citizens of tomorrow who will hold universal values in a globally and technologically advancing society.
Our vision at Mt Hira College is to strive for excellence, in both academic and spiritual development with continuous progress to develop confident students, proud of their Islamic identity, who are committed, passionate and hard working citizens, and are ready to contribute positively and productively to Australian society. The following core values guiding community life and teaching and learning are reflected in all aspects of College life and contribute to a sense of common purpose within the College Community.
From its humble origins of 20 founding students and a handful of portable classrooms, Mt Hira College is a testament to the truly ambitious and driven community that it so rightfully reflects. With gratitude to the visionaries behind the Keysborough Turkish and Islamic Community, Mt Hira College stands 18 years strong, proud of its phenomenal growth and multicultural diversity.
Whilst many of the founding members continue to remain active in the Mt Hira College family today, we pay respects to the members of our community who made what was once a dream, now a bustling and thriving reality. Mt Hira College is a prime example of never giving up, being generous and working collaboratively to achieve success.
Each and every student should be proud to know that they are part of a dream that was once created to spark the dreams of generations to come. In turn, The College takes pride in the association of its heritage with the Turkish and Islamic community. The vision continues.
The curriculum at Mt Hira College is devised in accordance with the Australian Curriculum. It consists of eight key learning areas which include: English, Mathematics, Integrated Studies (History, Geography and Science), Information Communications Technology, The Arts, Health and Physical Education and Languages Other than English (Arabic and Turkish). Religious Education is also taught as a compulsory subject at our school.
Mt Hira College offers a safe and nurturing environment that promotes ‘Lifelong Learning.’ An emphasis is put on students to excel and reach their fullest potential. Our curriculum and extra curricula activities aim to be of high standard with a focus on student centered learning. The Mt Hira College family welcomes community involvement and parents are seen as an integral part of a childs’ education.
