ODC is located near the centre of Muscat which, with its high standard of living at reasonable cost, a warm and friendly environment and unspoilt natural beauty, provides an unparalleled setting for studying and living. The complete cost of undertaking the BDS Degree programme at ODC is significantly lower than a similar programme elsewhere.
ODC has an international academic affiliation with the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM). UCM is the largest university in Spain and one of the most prestigious in Europe, with its origins traceable back to circa 1293 AD.The UCM Faculty of Dentistry has an international reputation for academic excellence which is based on research, teaching and patient care and has about 1,000 registered students over its undergraduate BDS Bachelor Degree and postgraduate Masters and Doctorate Degree programmes.
The Faculty of Dentistry at UCM also has a number of agreements with various universities and dental schools around the world and this provides the opportunity for student and faculty exchange programmes. As Academic Affiliate, UCM makes regular visits to ODC and provides support in ensuring academic provision at ODC is maintained to contemporary international and European standards.
As the medium of instruction at ODC is English, the Predental foundation year is designed to provide school leavers with a strong foundation in preparation for the academic component of the BDS programme. Consequently for those who require this, up to 750 contact hours are allocated towards teaching and learning in English Language skills, particularly in the key areas of comprehension, speaking and writing by experienced English teachers. In addition students also learn applied Information and Communications Technology, Mathematics and Learning Skills.
Applicants with international secondary school leaving qualifications who have studied in English (see Admissions and Entry requirements) and those who can provide evidence of English Language skills such as a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 may be considered for exemption from the predental foundation year. Occasionally students with advance standing from other institutions may be considered eligible for transfer to ODC, subject to challenging and passing the relevant ODC professional examinations. Please contact the Student Affairs Registry for fees, eligibility and further information.
One of the most fundamental and integral aspects of undergraduate dental education is the clinical element. Dental students need to acquire and develop sound clinical skills during their undergraduate learning in the BDS Degree programme, for which ODC has constructed a brand new contemporary state-of-the-art dental college and hospital. This consists of outpatient dental clinical facilities with multiple dental chairs, X-ray facilities, a Central Sterile Supply Department and an operating theatre that are equipped to the highest standards using the latest technology available. The College provides comprehensive general and specialist oral and dental healthcare for both citizens and residents. Patient care is usually undertaken by dental students under supervision and normally by appointment.
The Library contains all relevant text and reference books, professional journals and a selection of general reading material for all courses / subjects in each year of study. The library is staffed by a trained librarian. The Student Affairs Registry deals with various aspects of student life at Oman Dental College including students support in enrolment, posting teaching schedules, assessments and activities. There is a notice board containing relevant information and it is the responsibility of each student to make sure that he or she is aware of any information and changes posted on the notice board. Communication with students takes place through Office 365@ODC and all students are provided with a College e-mail account.
