OAT is a school built by teachers. Its founders, after years of teaching locally and abroad, in public and private schools, envisioned a school that catered to students interested in technology, engineering, and science. In 2013, this vision became reality, and by June 2016, OAT proudly congratulated its first group of graduates.
Our mission is to consider the individuality of each student to provide the best educational experience. We aim for our students to feel immensely comfortable within our learning environment while simultaneously being challenged through dynamic course concepts. We strive to build relationships with our students founded on academic support, approachability, trust and warmth. One measure of our success is that students genuinely enjoy learning at OAT.
Our vision is to continually amplify the quality of education we provide our students with. We do this by actively seeking additional resources and planning educational field trips to bring accessible and inspiring modes of learning inside and outside the classroom. For those students who have had negative experiences in previous schools, we aim to prove that school can truly be a place of positivity, genuine connection, and fun.
OAT's teachers share one thing: they love being here! They are passionate about the world of teaching through instruction, assessment, collaboration, and communication with students and parents. OAT teachers are invested in their learners and feel proud as they see students work towards graduating and being admitted into post-secondary programs of their choice. OAT graduates will testify to the authentic desire among teachers to see their students succeed.
OAT offers the full high school accredited program at Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 levels for students to earn their OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma). As an accredited Ontario high school, we use curriculum created by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Our primary focus is mathematics and sciences, as we cater to students seeking admission into mathematics, science or engineering post-secondary disciplines. At OAT, we go beyond regular curriculum expectations by offering various Technology Workshops and demonstrating to students the overlap between their technical courses. Studying at OAT, students can earn the standard courses required for acceptance into university.
Our small class sizes allow for ample individualized support to ensure that students are well-prepared for their post-secondary studies. Through various teaching methods such as hands-on learning, direct instruction, effective questioning, cooperative and project-based learning, we target the diverse needs of our students so they can confidently retain knowledge and apply new skills.
OAT’s faculty is comprised of teachers who are knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate about the Art of Teaching. Our instructors are certified by the Ontario College of Teachers or are graduates from Masters and PhD programs. OAT teachers aim not only to provide the highest level of instruction, but also recognize that teaching is a human-centred profession. Our instructors care about building relationships with students so that learners are comfortable to ask questions and seek extra help whenever needed. To reinforce this close dynamic, at OAT, students and teachers relate to each other on a first-name basis.
Earning a high school diploma is important, but unfortunately the Ontario public education system doesn’t work for everyone. If you are looking for an alternative, OAT is the place to start looking. We are always happy to take on more students, be it for one on one tutoring, single credits, or full-time classes. Our central location at Yonge and Eglinton makes it easy to reach us from anywhere in Toronto and the GTA by public transit. Our school was founded in 2013 by teachers with years of teaching experience, with a vision: to create a learning environment that focuses on the individual students. Whether our students are simply working towards their OSSD or have goals that reach further, we aim to infuse a passion for whatever subject is being taught in the classroom.
At OAT, we pride ourselves on our talented instructors who teach students to have a passion for science and technology. We try to go above and beyond in presenting students with opportunities to learn outside the curriculum. Our goal is not only to teach students the course material for their high school diploma, but also to teach them to enjoy learning the course material themselves. Please contact us today, and we will be happy to answer any inquiries.
As part of OSSD requirements, we offer EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) tests, as needed, in Grades 9 and 10; we also offer the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course. Additionally, due to interest among many OAT students, we also provide support for writing:
