Email Admissions

The University has established the Overseas Field Trip Grant to provide funding towards overseas field trips for competent postgraduate research students whose theses would be greatly improved by the opportunity to undertake research and collection of data which is inaccessible in Australia.

The Overseas Field Trip Grant does NOT fund field trips that are essential to the thesis. Funds to cover essential aspects of the study, including field trips, must be budgeted for as a condition of admission to candidature. The Overseas Field Trip Grant funds are intended to support opportunities that arise in the course of study, and will significantly enhance the quality of the thesis.

Benefits
The value of the grant will normally be $2500 towards travel and living expenses; travel insurance can be  arranged through the University on request.  Applications are for awards tenable until July of the following year.

Eligibility

Applicants for the Overseas Field Trip Grant must be:

  • enrolled in the University for a PhD degree, normally in their second or early third year of candidature (or an equivalent period part-time) or be enrolled in the University for a Masters degree by research, normally in their first year of candidature (or an equivalent period part-time); and
  • have clearly demonstrated during this period a capacity for research; and
  • have gained unqualified support from his/her supervisor for the proposed overseas visit.
