Established in 2011, Pear Tree Education is leading the way in the Lower Mainland with a technology-enriched, innovative, and research-backed approach to education. Having evolved from Pear Tree Education, offering specialized after school and summer camp enrichment programs, Pear Tree Elementary has been created in response to the problem that public and private school education models are outdated, and that children are not learning the 21st century skills nor developing the confidence that will enable them to excel in and out of the classroom.

As expert educators, we recognized the need to re-examine the way children were taught. Our team of master-educated teachers set about developing a powerful methodology that not only inspires academic excellence, but nurtures a child’s individuality, builds confidence and cultivates the well-rounded skills they will need to have an advantage for life.

At Pear Tree Elementary, we teach children to connect and apply education to real life. We strive to provide the skills and resources students need to develop into strong learners, able thinkers, and contributing members of their community and world. Pear Tree Elementary’s progressive model emphasizes hands-on, student-centered, theme and project-based learning. It includes a balanced mix of academics, integrated subjects, physical skills, socioemotional development and seamless integration of technology.

Students work collaboratively in small classes. They are mentored by teachers to be inquisitive, think critically and engage with their peers to draw on other perspectives. Together they explore diverse knowledge, tackle complex problems to achieve common goals—and develop projects that demonstrate learning, innovation and creativity.

Pear Tree Elementary delivers a well-rounded, inspired education that cultivates each child’s individuality, academic and personal lifelong success.

Combined grade classes enhance learning, help children develop stronger social-emotional skills and provide natural leadership opportunities. Through the unique Pear Tree model, students develop real-world abilities, public speaking prowess and learn – how to learn. Daily physical activity includes individual and team-based experiences. Including diverse sports, we also integrate orienteering, yoga, sailing, dance, martial arts and more.

Pear Tree’s commitment to optimal nutrition for developing minds was an inspiration for the Healthy Hot Lunch Program. This was developed in collaboration with a Certified Holistic Nutritionist to help students optimize their academic, social-emotional and physical performance. These two aspects are integrated into learning opportunities including cooking experiences and science concepts.

Pear Tree Elementary’s Early Years Program sets the foundations not just of your child’s education, but their whole life. Our astounding private kindergarten school takes a theme-based and whole-child approach to the B.C. curriculum will nurture your child’s academic abilities, social and emotional development, and physical growth.

Each day will be one of wonder and enjoyment as they engage in new and exciting hands-on activities. Through play-based learning (guided play, dramatic play, and free play) your child will learn to process and make sense of what they are studying. Furthermore, Pear Tree’s daily physical education classes and Healthy Hot Lunch Program will provide the healthiest start for your child’s brain and body.

Delivered by Pear Tree Elementary’s passionate teachers (all with masters of education degrees M.Ed.) – who are experts in these early years – you can be confident that you have given your child the best educational and life opportunities. What is more, Pear Tree’s advanced teaching methods ensure that every child loves learning, feels valued, and has a place in our amazing school.

Our Grades 2-4 Primary Program is a vital part of your child’s education. In order to help your child blossom and grow, Pear Tree is an independent elementary school that balances teaching new skills with strengthening the foundations established in our Early Years program.

Your child will develop student and life skills, including organization, effort, determination and resilience. By improving upon these social and emotional skills, Pear Tree Elementary is able to transition your child from small projects to more sophisticated ones which require increased collaborative work and commitment.

Beside this, we introduce our Outdoor Education program in which your child will experience learning in a new environment for a prolonged period of time with their classmates. We also begin our French language program. The Grades 2-4 Primary Program will continue using traditional learning methods, but will also experience an increased use of technology, including iPads. Through Pear Tree’s Primary Program, your child will become increasingly aware of who they are, of the world around them, and of the connection between the two. As a result, it is an exciting time for students, teachers and parents alike.

Our Intermediate Program will prepare your child for more than just high school; it will prepare them for life far beyond school. As a private elementary school, Grades 5 to 7 are the years in which your child begins to mature. To support your child through this transition, Pear Tree Elementary’s teachers will play even greater roles as mentors and strong, positive role models.

Pear Tree Elementary will help your child develop the patience and tenacity needed to work primarily in a collaborative, project-based learning environment. Your child will learn to care about quality and performing to their best abilities. They will learn to take calculated risks and to learn from their mistakes. They will also learn to play an effective role in any team.
