A Pelangi School education values balance; where developing creativity, happiness and wellbeing, positive relationships, an enquiring mind and a love of learning, is as important as achieving international academic standards. Our students are supported by a nurturing, family-like school environment, providing them with opportunities to explore and learn, take risks, try new things, be independent and grow confidently into their own unique characters.

Pelangi School is a private, not-for-profit school founded in 2006 by parents seeking an alternative educational experience for their children in Ubud, Bali. From just a handful of children attending school all those years ago, our school community now includes 200 students representing almost thirty different nationalities.

Pelangi School’s mission is to provide a high quality, holistic education, delivered in English and Bahasa Indonesia, for children from Ubud and surrounding areas. Through education, we are dedicated to inspiring children to become responsible, self-motivated, creative, environmentally and socially conscientious, well rounded, happy individuals.

Our vision is that children leave our school with:

  • A set of values – honesty, integrity and good judgement.
  • A complement of skills – linguistic, mathematical, scientific, artistic, physical and social.
  • An enquiring and discriminating mind and a desire for knowledge.
  • Strong self-esteem and high personal expectations.
  • Tolerance and respect for others.

Learning in a holistic educational environment like Pelangi School is about honouring the culture of childhood, so that children are engaged and enthusiastic. Our Ethos are.

  • Pelangi School is a place where children love to learn.
  • We strive to help our children become knowledgeable, healthy, creative and happy individuals.
  • We respect the whole child and his or her different development stages.
  • We respect individual needs.
  • We believe that children need to ‘do’ through play and outdoor activities.
  • We believe children need to feel and express themselves.
  • We believe children need to think, question, explore, imagine, identify and solve problems, as well as take action.
  • Our students are active partners in learning with our teachers as guides and facilitators.
  • We believe in building quality relationships. We are proud of the strong bonds of trust and respect among the school community.

My 5y old went to 3 schools in Ubud: wood school (1 trimester), green school (camp), and pelangi (camp). His favorite school overall was Pelangi, hard to pinpoint why but he really loved it. Their camp has a mixture of very friendly staff, nice infrastructure, great activities at school like drawing and outside (turtle to the sea…), good food etc.

Fantastic school experience. My son did all his elementary school years here and it was amazing. Much more continuity than other international schools - most of his friends lived full time in Bali and stayed at the school for 5+ years. The teachers were inspiring and engaging. We were thrilled.
