21 Personal Goals to Set in 2026

“New year, new me!” is something that’s all too familiar at the beginning of each year. We set resolutions for ourselves to follow, but how strictly do we actually follow them? Rather than setting a New Year’s resolution that you will eventually quit after a few weeks, we’ve put together a list of personal goals that we recommend you try to achieve in the new year.

1. Read More Books
It’s okay if you prefer a specific genre when it comes to books, but try to read more in 2026. Once you get into the habit of picking up a book on a daily basis (or your Kindle), it will come naturally to you and you’ll find your reading list full to the brim.

2. Write Down What You’re Thankful For
This is a great way to reflect on what can be thankful for at the end of the year. We’re always so caught up in what is happening around the world, even if it’s negative news, that we tend to ignore the good left in our lives. Practice gratitude daily for a more positive outcome.

3. Eat Healthier
We’re always telling ourselves that we should be eating healthier, but what’s really stopping us? 2026 should be the year in which we conquer all of our “should-have”s and finally tick things off the list in an attempt to better ourselves.

4. Drink More Water
Of course, this ties into having a healthier diet, but it’s easy to underestimate how much water we really require throughout the day. Drinking lots of water also helps keep your skin look much healthier and can give you energy throughout the day.

5. Create a Routine
Morning routine, skincare routine or a fitness routine – life could always use a bit of planning. Stick to a strict schedule every day and do indulge in self-care.

6. Establish a Work-Life Balance
We tend to prioritize work over our personal lives and we need to be more mindful of this. We shouldn’t be allowing work to take over our lives completely. We need to strike a balance between work and social lives so that we don’t find ourselves overly exhausted or burned out.

7. Stop Procrastinating
Procrastination is not a personality trait, but rather a bad habit. It’s possible for you to unlearn this habit, but it’s important that you make a good effort in doing so. Procrastination stops you from progressing in your career or schoolwork and can hold you back in life.

8. Save More Money
Saving more money is always helpful. If you don’t already have a savings account, it’s the best time to open one!

9. Learn a New Language
You don’t have to be in a foreign country to learn a new language! Who says you can’t learn one just for fun? Mandarin, Spanish and French are three of the most popular languages in the world and you’ll find yourself being able to converse with a diverse group of people.

10. Arrive on Time
Arriving late can seem like a quirky habit but when you’re always late for every occasion, it’s time to kick this bad habit to the curb. Plan your events in advance so that you have a shot at reaching your destination on time (or even earlier!).

11. Be a Team Player
Most jobs require you to be able to work well with others. When you’re cooperative and easy to work with, you’ll find yourself succeeding in the workplace more often. This will also help you build stronger relationships with your coworkers as they will see you as trustworthy and dependable.

12. Learn a New Skill
There’s always an opportunity to learn new skills. This could range from cooking, painting, gardening or writing – a new year offers plenty of opportunities to learn something you’ve always wanted to learn!

13. Focus on Physical Wellbeing
Physical health is often taken for granted when we don’t exercise as much as we should. Even if we’re relatively in good shape, it’s important to focus on physical wellbeing by exercising daily and building up stamina.

14. Be More Straightforward
If there is something or someone that makes you unhappy, speak up. You don’t always have to stay quiet and let people treat you badly – it’s okay to prioritize your wellbeing and happiness above others once in a while.

15. Get Out of the Comfort Zone
A new year allows you to try new things, sure – but try to do something that pulls you out of your comfort zone. You’ve had your whole life to be comfortable and safe, but challenging and new activities will help you see what you’re truly capable of and you won’t be stuck in the same place. It will also help you build confidence!

16. Improve Your Listening Skills
We could all be better listeners, whether it’s at work or at home. It’s easy to talk and attempt to fix problems, but sometimes all people need is someone to listen to them. Even in the workplace, listening to your coworkers is important in order to do a good job.

17. Give Back to Others
Times are tough for many people and a helping hand goes a long way. Volunteer at a retirement home or an animal shelter – even spending your time simply talking to someone in need can go a long way. If you can, donate to those in need of food or shelter.

18. Learn a New Word Everyday
Learning a new word each day will help you improve and broaden your vocabulary. It will help you express yourself more effectively and with sophistication. If you’re learning a new language, this is a helpful tip as it will help you understand the language’s grammar to a greater extent.

19. Reconnect with Old Friends
It’s always great to get in touch with friends from our past to reconnect and talk about the “good ol’ days”. It might even bring up some pleasant memories!

20. Work on Your Body Language
Body language is non-verbal communication that includes every gesture and movement that you make. Research shows that proper and correct body language helps you communicate with others more efficiently. It can also convey your confidence and assertiveness, and help improve work performance.

21. Practice Kindness
Everyone could be a little kinder. Before choosing to be rude or hurtful, try to reflect and ask yourself whether it’s necessary. Often, we find ourselves being rude to others over small mistakes, unaware of whether that person may be going through a difficult time. It truly doesn’t hurt to be a little kinder every day.
