Welcome to our lovely school. Since we opened in 2015, at Pontprennau we aim to create a stimulating and supportive environment that allows our pupils to feel valued and inspired, and to experience success. We play a central part in the local community, and through high standards of teaching and learning, as well as a kind, caring and safe environment we aim to help all our pupils reach their full potential.
We have a "rainbow of possibilities" that are the vision and values at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
In Literacy we will be learning to handle books carefully and sing familiar rhymes and songs. This week we will have our library session on Tuesday and choose a special book to take home to share with our parents and carers. We will begin our new context for learning 'How Many Colours in a Rainbow'. Our book of the week is 'Wow said the Owl' by Tim Hopgood. We will begin our Pen Pals handwriting scheme where we will be developing gross motor skills and exploring the vocabulary of movement. We will also be exploring environmental sounds through a range of Phonic based activities and games.
In Maths we will be learning about 'Freddie Four' another friend from Ten Town. We will develop our understanding of 'one more' and 'one less' through practical activities on provision. We will be further developing our understanding of number, touch counting and pattern through play based activities daily.
Pontprennau Primary School is a community focused school where everyone involved with it, but especially the pupils, can thrive in a secure, happy and creative environment. There is a strong and positive commitment to high expectations and the basis of excellent Early Years practice to ensure the achievement of high standards for all and that the whole community works together to achieve the school aims.
Pontprennau Primary School aims to be a ‘Beacon of Excellence’ in all of its work, shining a light out in multiple directions with its work recognised and respected across Wales and beyond.
We aim to provide pupils at the school with consistently high quality teaching and learning experiences coupled with high expectations and high aspirations of what they can achieve.
We aim to develop well-rounded, academically capable and socially aware life-long learners who demonstrate the skills and attributes to continue their life beyond primary school.
We aim to ensure everyone’s health, social, emotional and wellbeing needs are met so they are in the best possible position to learn effectively.
We value ‘Excellence of Effort’ – We recognise the importance of sustained, consistent effort over time. Progress will be enhanced with focus and effort. Such effort will be praised and recognised.
We value ‘Safety’ – Every member of the School Community should be safe from harm, discrimination and bullying. We will proactively work to keep everyone safe.
We value ‘Respect’ – We must show kindness and thoughtfulness to others and to our environment. We will be inclusive to everyone’s needs. We will promote the importance of health and wellbeing.
We value ‘Responsibility’ – Whilst valuing the need to work with others, we must also recognise the importance of taking responsibility for your own actions and outcomes.
We value ‘Collaboration’ – We are an interlinked society and we must play, work and live with others in our local, national and world contexts. We value the importance of working together – we are stronger as a group than as an individual.
