In 1901, when the people were crying out "we have nowhere to go" as the nation was losing sovereignty and also hope, God made a way for Pyeongyang Theological Seminary, which grew into the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary. Now in the beginning of the twenty-first century, at this time of yet another crisis, we deeply desire to answer God's calling and to be used as His instrument once again.
Missionary Moffett began teaching Chong-Sub Kim and Ki-Chang Pang at his home in Pyongyang in 1901. And in 1903, the Presbyterian Council decided to officially start the theological education in Korea. In the beginning, missionaries from each Presbyterian synod went to Pyongyang to teach a course which was designed to give three months of study and nine months of ministry in a five year span.In June of 1907, the first class of seven students graduated from the theological course, and among them were the first ordained pastors of Korea: Sun-Joo Kil, Suk-Jin Han, and Ki-Pung Lee.
The purpose of Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary, a theological educational institution of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea, under the aegis of the Department of Education of the Republic of Korea, is to provide higher education through nurturing leaders and ministers of the church in the foundation of biblical theology, in adherence to the confessions of faith and Constitution of the Presbyterian Church. To proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to embody the Kingdom of God. To cultivate leaders and ministers who will serve the church, the society, and the nation. Training for piety, Pursuing academic excellence, Practising the Gospel.
We have a dream to see the kingdom of God realized here and now through the proclamation of the gospel. For that dream we will devote ourselves to training piety, cultivating scholarship, and practicing the gospel, in order to equip PUTS community as workers of the kingdom of God and to edify the church as a herald of the kingdom of God. Above all, we are determined to love the church, this nation, and the world in faith, truth, and deed. We, PUTS community, cordially invite you to this exciting and glorious call to work for the kingdom of God.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
Went here for my Master’s degree in theology in 2004-2005. My experience here changed my whole life as it was a totally new exposure to the outside world. I met people here who were instrumental in taking me to a wholly other kind of life. The Lord opened the door for me for even further studies in America through a solid Korean government-accredited degree feom PCTS (now PUTS).Wish I could visit this place again for something like a symposium or conference again soon.

It is the founding university of the Presbyterian Church in Korea and has the largest number of seminarians among theological universities in Korea. Of course, although it was established in the same year as Chongshin University (1901), it is a theological university directly managed by the Presbyterian Church of Korea, the founding denomination of the Presbyterian Church.
