The President’s Award is an entrance scholarship valued at $2,500 for international students entering their first year of study at Algoma University, completing their previous academic qualification with a minimum country-equivalent grade average of A (using the Algoma U grading scale). To qualify, candidates must be studying on a full-time basis (24-30 credits over two consecutive terms of study). Registrations in a course load of less than 30 credits, but greater than or equal to 24 credits will be prorated. Students must complete all qualifying requirements in the academic year prior to commencing studies in any program of study at Algoma University.
International students studying in an Ontario secondary school and meeting the OSSD requirements must achieve 80-89.9 percent on their top 6 grade 12 U/M courses presented for admission.
Algoma University is located in the heart of the Great Lakes in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. With 1,400 students, we are the smallest university in Ontario and the only post-secondary institution in the province strictly for undergraduate students.
Established in 1965 as Algoma University College, an affiliate of Laurentian University, we have been educating the people of Northern Ontario for over 50 years. In 2008, we were granted our charter, becoming an independent degree-granting institution.
We offer over 30 different academic programs, spanning the liberal arts, sciences, and professional disciplines. All of our programs offer undergraduate research opportunities and hands-on learning. Classes are capped at 75 students, even in first year, meaning that you have more one-on-one interactions with our knowledgeable and caring faculty. Our faculty will know you on a first name basis and will work hard to make your dreams a success, both inside and outside of the classroom. Personal attention and a commitment to your success are the cornerstones of an Algoma degree.
As a partner with Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig (SKG), we have a special mission to cultivate cross-cultural learning between Anishinaabe (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) populations and other communities in Northern Ontario. Thirteen per cent of our students self-identify as Anishinaabe, and another 23 per cent come from outside of Canada, giving Algoma U one of the most diverse campuses in Ontario. We embrace and foster diversity and value differing perspectives.
