The President’s Scholarship is awarded to one full-time undergraduate international student. Valued at $30,000, it is one of the most prestigious scholarships at the University of Ottawa. Applicants must hold a student visa, have a minimum admission average of 92% (or equivalent) and demonstrate leadership qualities and a commitment to academic and extracurricular activities. This scholarship can be renewed for the three following years provided the student maintains full-time enrolment, international student status and a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 8.50. The University also provides a one-time award of $1,500 to applicants in second, third and fourth place. Applications must be submitted online.

  • Students can renew their scholarship at 50% of the annual value if they have a CGPA between 8.00 and 8.49 at the end of the academic year. They can also renew their scholarship for the full amount in a subsequent year if their CGPA increases to 8.50 or higher.
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with a Chancellor's Scholarship for International Students, with the Faculty of Arts Dean's Merit Scholarship or with the Merit Scholarship.

Receive your funds

  • Your scholarship will be credited to your student account.
  • If you are a CO-OP student, you'll receive your funds once you're enrolled in a study term.
  • Admission scholarships and renewals are usually credited to your student account in mid-July. You'll receive two equal instalments, one in September and one in January, which are applied towards your tuition fees.
  • If you've already paid your tuition fees, you may have a credit balance in your student account after receiving a scholarship. Submit a request for reimbursement in uoZone, under Finances and jobs, to have these funds released.
  • Scholarships are taxable. You receive a T4A slip if you received awards, scholarships or bursaries from the University of Ottawa during the fiscal year. Slips are available in uoZone at the end of February.

Eligibility

General eligibility criteria for an admission scholarship

  • Meet the admission requirements of the program in question;
  • Be enrolled full time for the first time in a university undergraduate program;
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have protected person or refugee status (unless otherwise indicated)
