Professor Donald Bligh graduated in Teacher Training from our university in 1958 and personally supports this scholarship.
The Professor Bligh Scholarship seeks to support a student who shows they can think for themselves and argue for their viewpoint, while recognising objections and devising a way of testing their own ideas. The scholarship looks for an ‘intellectual rebel’ - someone prepared to challenge established beliefs but also able to see and argue both sides of an issue, someone who never stops asking questions but is also open minded and not dogmatic.
As part of the scholarship the successful recipient is invited to use Professor Bligh as a mentor to take their ideas further and help develop appropriate study methods to do so.
The scholarship is an award of £1,160, paid as £500 on the award of the scholarship and £660 at the start of second semester. The scholarship is open to applications from students who meet the eligibility criteria. Successful applicants are selected after an application and
