PYP Elementary Teacher Assistant

Job Summary

The role of the teaching assistant is to support the students and the teacher to help ensure the best learning and teaching experiences for the students. The teaching assistant will have an instructional and non-instructional role. Based on the performance review, the teaching assistant might be promoted to become a homeroom teacher after completing at least two years as a teaching assistant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Non-instructional support is needed in the classroom such as:
• Update bulletin boards and the learning wall to documents and reflect the learning story.
• Take attendance.
• Reinforce routines set by the homeroom teachers.
• Distribute and collect assignments as advised by the homeroom teacher.
• Prepare classroom related material as advised by the homeroom teacher.
• Supervise outside that includes monitoring hallways, lunchtime, field trips, playground areas and dismissal duties.
• Take minutes during planning meetings and share them with the team within 24 hours.
• Report concerns to GLL ( as a mentor)
• Set personal goal with GLL and work according to the action plan agreed upon
• Prepare/brainstorm any new ideas/engagements that TA might think will add value to the unit.
• Report to GLL any issues / concerns related to other classes.
• Instructional support:
• Substitute when the homeroom teacher is absent.
• Attend and contribute to planning meetings with resources, ideas and suggestions and in reflecting on the past week.
• Help teacher prepare materials and assignments for instruction.
• Enforce school policies and rules (uniform, healthy snack).
• Make sure that the learning environment in organized and orderly.
• Be able to effectively communicate with students, teacher and in some cases parents
