John Lyon is Northwest London’s leading co-ed, all-through 3 to 18, independent school. We are forward-thinking and dynamic in our approach, all whilst staying true to our proud heritage, ethos and culture. Our eight School Values: Ambition, Community, Creativity, Enquiry, Excellence, Heritage, Innovation, Resolve guide us in all we do and are embedded into School life.
We proudly serve families in Harrow-on-the-Hill, around Harrow and further afield by offering a world-class School experience for pupils from aged 3 in our Little Lyons Nursery to aged 18 sitting A-Levels in our bespoke Sixth Form Centre. John Lyon is a happy, warm and progressive community.
At John Lyon, we believe that every pupil has unique talents and strengths. We pride ourselves on providing an enriching, supportive, and challenging environment for every pupil, while promoting a culture of academic excellence, personal responsibility and respect.
Academic work is just the beginning, and we firmly believe that the additional opportunities we provide through our extra-curricular, co-curricular and Excellence programmes are equally important, playing a vital role in equipping our pupils with the skills and experiences they will need to help them succeed in life at School and beyond. Pupils find that our vibrant and inclusive co-ed classrooms create a diverse learning community in which all can thrive.
We embrace technology and put it at the forefront of all that we do. As a ‘Microsoft Showcase School’, we are one of only 82 other schools and colleges in the UK to be recognised by Microsoft.
We are not your typical school. We are part of something much bigger. John Lyon School sits within John Lyon Foundation and alongside the Harrow Family of Schools, which includes Harrow School itself and Harrow International Schools around the globe. Pupils benefit from these close links and regularly take part in pan-Family events, including an annual Fifth Form Conference, assemblies and lessons streamed with partner schools, creative-writing anthology and a STEAM magazine. In addition, staff often have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues all over the world in order to develop best practice and exchange ideas and resources.
We invite you to explore our website and visit us in person to learn more about John Lyon School. We are a thriving IAPS co-educational Preparatory School, dedicated to the education of boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 11 years.
Children enjoy a broad and inclusive education, firmly centred on the core values of Ambition, Excellence, Innovation, Resolve, Heritage, Community, Enquiry and Creativity. With an emphasis on achievement, we believe in setting high expectations, leading by example and creating a secure, positive and inspiring learning environment where our pupils can feel challenged and supported to aim high and develop their individual talents.
Our results are consistently impressive and many of our leavers gain scholarships to the senior schools of their choice. In a recent ISI School Inspection, we were rated the highest possible Excellent-Excellent, for our pupils’ academic achievement and personal development.
Through an ongoing desire to improve and enhance our provision, we are proud to boast first rate facilities including a recently refurbished swimming pool and Art and Design Centre, an AstroTurf pitch, a new ICT suite and modern classrooms with interactive whiteboards.
We are very much a family school where children are always our highest priority and where teachers and other staff operate an open door policy. Our pastoral care is of paramount importance to us and our approach is rooted in a strong sense of community based on the belief that happy children can achieve great things.
It is an exciting time as our Prep recently came together with John Lyon School to create an all-through School for children and young people, from Nursery all the way through to A-Level. This means we now offer families an exceptional 3-18 experience.
Our mission at the Prep is to help achieve personal growth and success for each and every child within a caring ethos. This mission becomes reality in the environment of a small, dynamic, family-orientated school, where cultural diversity is acknowledged and valued.
We set great store by pastoral care of the highest order alongside a clear concern for the welfare of your child. We teach the values of openness and mutual respect throughout our School community, in which there is a strong belief in the traditional values of education.
The Prep School has a clear set of values that are vital to our community. Our values shape who we are, what we do and how we do it. Each value is woven into School life and our admissions process. Our Values are tangible and meaningful; they enable us to promote and teach a set of principles to our pupils that will help them develop as individuals to be the best they can be.
