Raglan Primary School

Raglan is a two-form entry co-educational foundation primary with a specialist provision for children with speech and language disorders. We also have a private nursery on site. There are approximately 440 pupils on roll. Raglan is set in an urban setting and is very well equipped with excellent resources. All our staff are committed to ensuring that each child reaches their potential in a happy, exciting and safe environment. It’s a place where children want to be and want to learn.

We have a networked ICT suite and 60 iPads to support cross curricular work, staging, sound and lighting for our concerts and productions, a dedicated music studio, a sprung floor gymnasium and a state of the art kitchen. The children enjoy hosting concerts and whole school events and there is always a very special atmosphere within our community at these occasions.

Our active PTA is called Friends of Raglan (FOR) and they work hard to organise social and fund raising events. All funds are fed back into school to benefit your child so please get involved, feel part of the team and support their excellent work! We also enjoy strong links with various aspects of the wider community, working closely with Whitehall Rec, Chatterton Village, local secondary schools, businesses, churches and senior citizens.

We pride ourselves on being an Eco school and our environmental work and reputation is well known in the borough and beyond. We offer an excellent range of instrument tuition. The curriculum does not end as the school day ends. We have opportunities for the children to participate in a range of clubs run by the members of staff and outside providers who volunteer their time generously.

It is very well led and managed by the headteacher with full support from the leadership team, staff and governors who share her vision for excellence and enjoyment. Pupils thrive both academically and personally in a welcoming, caring and very well-organised environment. Their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, including their behaviour, is excellent.

They really enjoy school because they feel exceptionally safe, are well cared for and receive a curriculum which is relevant to their daily lives. They are enabled to develop an excellent understanding of healthy lifestyles. Pupils in the specialist speech and language classes make outstanding progress, particularly in speaking, literacy and numeracy, because they are given excellent opportunities for developing their personal and academic abilities. Parents and carers are generally very pleased with the school and, as one parent commented, ‘My child has loved his time at Raglan; he has flourished as a person, socially, emotionally and academically.’

In addition to a strong curriculum and extra curricular activities, Raglan pupils exhibit excellent behaviour, they enjoy school as their extremely good attendance demonstrates.
