Changes in a developing global, knowledge-based world, together with a growing understanding of how people learn, have shifted the focus of education from gaining and replicating knowledge, to developing students who can transfer and apply their knowledge both in and beyond the classroom.

When a child joins Sacred Heart College, he or she begins a journey that will carry them through to 18 and beyond. Our curriculum runs seamlessly through every section and is designed to prepare your child for life in the 21st century. It teaches children and young people to think creatively and critically, to care and build flexible skills for a fast-changing world of new technologies.

The Marist Brother movement dates back to 1816, where Marcellin Champagnat, a young French priest, tended to a young boy on his deathbed, who had no knowledge of God and His love. He founded an order of teaching brothers near Lyon. They called themselves The Little Brothers of Mary. As the Brothers grew in number, they travelled around the world, with their mission to make God known and loved. They arrived in South Africa in 1867 and began to transform the way the education system worked.

The Marist Network thrives in 80 countries on five continents, with a lot of focus on their 520 schools. The network also operates in a number of organisations and groups. Most recently, they have initiated the La Valla 200 international groups: Brothers and laity living in community and working together to serve those most vulnerable on each continent.

Our aim is to instil a deep and natural love of learning that will stay with our children forever. Our curriculum is rich and diverse. It is both demanding and fun, giving your child the chance to excel in so many areas. Girls and boys learn, work and play together and quickly develop excellent social skills and learn to adapt both socially and emotionally – making friends with boys and girls and knowing they are equal.

When children are encouraged to respect each other and always to see people as individuals, they carry this with them through life. Our children’s willingness to try anything is one of their biggest strengths. Children develop best when their teachers and family work together to help them learn and be happy. We will always keep you well informed about your child’s progress and welcome you whenever you want to talk to their teacher. Your involvement in school events makes them special for everyone.

Our children learn and grow within a community where they feel safe and secure, have clear expectations of how they should be treated by others, and have high standards for themselves in how they behave towards other people.

Our aim, as a school, is to develop the potential of all our students through our academic, sport, culture, leadership and community engagement. Our Primary School seeks to provide a progressive and stimulating environment where our students are encouraged to think critically, and analytically. This empowers them, helping them to develop their potential across all areas of school life.

Just as important in our learning are the interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, the teamwork and leadership, the ability to think on their feet and work under pressure that will equip our students no matter what the future brings.

The creative use of technology enables our students and teachers to move beyond traditional classrooms, transforming education through innovative, unique ways of learning. Our children learn and grow within a community where they feel safe and secure, have clear expectations of how they should be treated by others, and have high standards for themselves in how they behave towards other people.

The coming decades will be shaped in unknown ways by the forces of science, technology, globalisation and geopolitics. Our curriculum is future focused which establishes strengths in the core subjects but is also integrated and varied enough to adapt to the demands of the 21st century.

We are as focused on emerging, innovative and creative subjects as we are on classic academic disciplines. Our students find fulfilment and success in a broad range of learning pathways: and succeed equally well in the study of the Arts or Sciences.

Our students engage pro-actively with their learning at school and at home; and are not afraid to take a risk or learn from mistakes; they are proud of their efforts and know that education is a long, exciting journey with both challenges and rewards.
